The Worst Vacation Ever!
Although snow skiing may be enjoyable for some, the extreme temperatures involved, the outrageous prices and snow skiing in general was just not my cup of tea. This information would have been quite helpful before I planned the worst vacation ever! After hitting a jackpot at the Creek Nation Casino in 2004, my fiancé, Tim and I decided we needed a vacation! It had been almost six months since I gave birth to our daughter, Taylor Nicole and we were both feeling a bit overwhelmed. The joy of becoming new parents was quickly diminished by the sudden presence of our newly found responsibilities. This vacation was supposed to be the break we needed. After researching prices and destinations that would accommodate our modest budget, we finally chose a small ski resort in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. We eagerly booked our room, reserved our ski passes and purchased necessary equipment all paid for in advance. We were convinced that we would have the time of our lives.
My first clue that this would not be the vacation of my dreams should have been my distaste for cold weather. Ellen, a famous comedian who hosts her own television show said, “If the temperature is less than my age, I don’t get out of bed.” (Ellen). I should’ve took her advice and stayed in bed. It just so happened, a cold front with below-freezing temperatures and record-setting snowfall was quickly headed our way. Meteorologists estimated this to be the blizzard of the decade. As a result, the ski resort conveyed their sincerest apologies and issued either rain checks or refunds to all the vacationers. I asked myself, "A rain check, who would ever want to do this again?" (Branson)
My second clue should have been the prices of everything as I was booking this three-day winter wonderland vacation. They were completely

My feet ached as I passed through the automatic screen door to the snow filled Gunnison-Crested Butte Regional Airport parking lot. The cool, crisp air stung my face, but my smile remained. Seven slow years have passed since I visited Crested Butte, Colorado, and I have been craving to return the moment I left. The towering mountains, blissful blue sky, and blinding white snow from the piercing sun makes Colorado a place like no other. I stood waiting on the icy concrete for my dad to pull around Baby Blue, a 1996 Chevrolet Astro van my family had nicknamed. My family visited Colorado in 2010, because my mom’s boss owns a timeshare condo, which included Baby Blue. He offered us a vacation to Crested Butte where we could have a free place to…

Although, after turning 6, I was introduced to snow skiing . It became an enjoyable hobby of mine for years. Skiing opened my eyes to the beauty of nature and the serenity it provided. I loved the smell of fresh air and the exhilarating feeling of gliding down the mountain. It is a very peaceful sport and provides a silence away from everyday life. Coincidentally, I learned of ski club in middle school where I could ski with several other students that enjoyed this exercise as well. I joined the club and looked forward to the weekly Sunday trips. It showed the importance…

Many people had things to say about blizzard conditions. People said they started seeing signs of the blizzard on New Year’s Eve of 1998. Weather temperatures were decreasing and snow was beginning to fall. One witness described the condition like driving through a fog of white snow without being able to see an inch in front of him. A man described being stuck on the flight by northwest airlines as being covered in blankets and other peoples clothing just to keep warm and developed frost bite on his nose and toes. A lady described the condition as the worst she’d seen in her 83 years of life living in Chicago. A mother remembers trying to get her child to a local hospital and developing frost bite and flu like symptoms from the amount of snow accumulation on the ground.…
