Fiction as the text defines is, “a story about events that never happens in real life.” (WEAL, 20) However, in order to enjoy the work, the reader must be able to make a connection with the work to one’s own life experiences and beliefs. King has portrayed the Buick as a gateway to an alternative universe, on a similar ground the TV series, Stranger Things [1] comes to mind, which is the story about the disappearance of a young boy and the concept of a parallel universe, which is the central theme. The biggest difference between From a Buick 8 and Stranger Things is as the episode progresses the viewer gets pieces of information to unanswered questions about how this all started, thus making this bizarre story somewhat realistic and easier for the audience to grasp. Unlike From a Buick 8, where throughout the book and especially the ending, the reader is left with a void of being unable to connect the events to something plausible because the story does not answer the very puzzling questions of where did the Buick 8 come from, what is on the other side etc. However, on the other hand, the book World War Z by Max Brooks, despite being a fictional piece about a zombie apocalypse is still realistic and easier for the readers to comprehend because in many ways the story closely resembles World War I and II and touches on the subject of the horrors of war in general.
