Though they invented the airplane, many prototypes of the airplane already existed, but none of them were controllable. The Wright Brothers’ love for airplanes started when they were little. They had recieved a rubber band powered helicopter, which was of course, uncontrollable. From there, they didn’t do much more regarding airplanes until later. The first job that the Wright Brothers had had no correlation to making airplanes, as they both worked in a print shop. As a hobby they started to fix, and create bikes out of spare parts, this hobby eventually evolved into a job for the brothers. Their time in fixing bikes resparked their love for inventing, bringing airplanes back into the picture. Creating the bikes also gave the bros experience with creating transportation…

On December 17, 1903 crewmen John Daniels, Will Dough, Adam Etheridge, W.C. Binkley, and Johnny Moore, a teenager from Nags Head, would witness an event that would change the world forever. The Wright Brothers would make history in achieving the first sustained air flight. While this flight lasted only 12 seconds, it was nevertheless the first in the history of the world in which a machine carrying a man had raised itself by its own power into the air, had flown forward without reducing speed, and had finally landed at a point as high as that from which it…

The book The Wright Brothers by David McCullough focus on the importance of Wilbur and Orville Wright and their invention. Wilbur Wright was the middle child of the five children in the Wright’s family. He was born on April 16, 1867 in Millville, Indiana. His mother, Susan Koerner Wright, was highly intelligent and understanding but unfortunately she passed away due to tuberculosis in 1889. She always had high hopes and dreams for Wilbur and Orville. His father, Bishop Milton Wright, was a very wise and strong-minded man, much like Wilbur and Orville. Their invention of the airplane has made such an impact on the world today.…

Can we fly? This question has been asked for centuries by hundreds of inventors and philosophers alike; some of who are discussed in the National Geographic article I read titled: If We Only Had Wings. The author of this article, Nancy Shute, writes about the trials, ideas, and achievements of inventors such as Leonardo da Vinci and the Wright brothers. However, the article is even more interesting because while describing the progression of personal aircrafts throughout history, she also depicts her flying experience while hang gliding. This article was very informative as well, with information ranging from the steps of flying a hang glider, to the science behind how humming birds are able to defy gravity. Overall I loved this article; it was short but filled with information and pictures that are able to tell stories.…

The reason these inventors were so significant was because without them there would not be a smooth process in the U. S today. Edwin Drake actually created the very first oil well, if you think about it who knows how long it would have taken to have found that and what we would do if it wasn’t found. Thomas Edison created the photograph, the light bulb and the motion picture. If we think about that also, who knows how our household would be without the light bulb and how our memories would be captured without a photograph. Even Alexander Bell who created the telephone, how would we communicate? The point that I’m making is that a lot of things would not be the way they are if it wasn’t for a lot of these significant people. Our world would be upside down if we didn’t have all these new and old inventions within our world. An also the incentives for the inventors and the U.S was that people were going to buy these things and money would come back to…

The Wright Brothers were the ones who invented the airplane. The airplane has made huge advantages in the things that we do every day. Everyday people have a package that we miraculously transport to some other persons house. The way that we do this is by shipping, which took a long time 150 years ago mostly by train or car, mostly by an airplane. We have to thank the Wright Brothers for the ease of being able to ship things all across the world in a quarter of the time it would take without the airplane. Also they made it easier to travel wherever we want. Before we had to take a train or go by car which took days to weeks to travel to another state. Now, thanks to the invention of the airplane, we could fly across the country in 6 hours, which is so much easier than it used to be before. The airplane not only aided everyday people but also the armed forces. It aided the armed forces in fighting wars, they could attack from above. Just imagine not being able to attack from and having to fight on the ground, it is very tough. When you attack form above you get to see the whole battle field and not just 100 feet in front of you. It also allows you to survey the land before hand so you can accurately plan your battle. That is a huge advantage when it is a life or death situation such as war, which is a…

Leif Eriksson and his crew members are hero’s in my book. They were the first ones to discover America, start a new settlement, discover new goods, and find new religions and new languages. Leif Eriksson and the vikings don’t get as much recognition anymore, they were the first to do everything and they gave Christopher Columbus and other great explorers ideas to explore and find new land. Without Vikings we wouldn’t be here in North America or we would be in Europe learning a different language or religion. Without Vikings the world would be completely…

I believe the invention of an airplane was brilliant. The airplane is not only one of the greatest inventions in the 20th century, but also the most wonderful scientific creation of the human history. The inventors of the first airplane were Orville and Wilbur Wright. On December 17, 1903, the Wright brothers made the first successful experiment in which a machine carrying a man rose by its own power, flew naturally and at even speed, and descended without damage. That machine was named "airplane". Their achievement was not the matter of only a single day. On the contrary, they had worked day-in and day-out with determination and had invented seven initial shapes of aircraft including one kite, three gliders, and three powered airplanes. Throughout their childhood Wilbur and Orville were encouraged to learn and experiment with new things by their loving parents. The father, Milton, was a bishop in the United Brethren Church and would often be away on trips but would sometimes bring home gifts for the boys. One particular gift started it all. It was the gift of a rubber band-powered helicopter. Right from the beginning Wilbur and Orville tried to make duplicates of the flying toy. The curiosity of the toy stayed with the boys until they were men when they then started to go beyond just a flying helicopter and onto a much larger than life aircraft.…
