One of the themes shown in Cosi is insanity. While the patients were viewed as crazy people, Lewis soon discovers that they are in fact not and in many ways, are like everyone else. He soon realises that even though each patient has a mental flaw they each have their own unique opinions and and beliefs.It was more so society's perspective on these people shown perfectly at the start of the film when Lewis` friends leave before even meeting the people of the institution. Lewis` rollercoaster of a journey is mostly mental and his self development and ability to learn from past experiences exceeds. Lewis going into his new job is only interested in earning a bit of money and has the same perspective on these people as the rest of society. As he works with the patients, his perspective changes and he learns about the relation the play has to love and that the friendship of the patient's matters.
