Students should be exposed to other life conditions and hardship. These books can educate individuals on other lifestyles, and struggles. By not allowing these books to enter schools and libraries, it sugar coats the world, to an extent. By censoring this books you are robbing the individual who wishes to read the book, of the associated knowledge. While some may argue that they don’t want to be or their family to be exposed to this, then preview the content. There are plenty of sources which give insight on what content is about, without actually having to ban the content in question.
Overall, content should not be censored in schools and libraries because, It should be the responsibility of the guardian to prevent minors from viewing content the guardian finds unacceptable. If the individual is too young or sensitive, avoid the content, generally no one is forcing the individual to view the media in question. Some history has been censored unjustly, which is wrong on many levels, there are plenty of substitutes one could view, instead of the full dark detailed version if they wished.
