Writing As An AVID Student

Writing is necessary to perfect as an AVID student. Without writing you would not be able to write your cornell notes or learning logs correctly. Everything begins with a process. In this case it is the writing process. Mr. Hill once assigned a prompt for both timed writing and process writing. I attached this ecology awareness prompt that was timed. Since time was limited I brainstormed on a sticky note and kept my ideas brief. When I began writing I expanded my ideas more. This is how I began to learn how to write using my time wisely and keeping things brief but sorted. Unfortunately, I did not finish the whole essay. I wrote five paragraphs but was missing one more to actually be complete. I made a few grammar errors here and there. Though
I did not complete the essay as intended I still got to experience timed writing under pressure. Within the writing process there are writing skills that need to be adjusted. Mr. Hill has given us several vocab words throughout the semester. AVID week one corrections helped the usage of proper sentence types and avoid improper grammar. The notes display the first time a sentence is written out and the second part is how to correct errors. This gave me an idea of how to write sentences formally without slang or abbreviations. To improve writing skills you need to focus and double check how words are put into the page. Applying the writing skills and process improves literature work. In english honors I wrote a argumentative essay about prescription abuse. I had my opinions changed to facts and pure knowledge. I had to assure my entire paper was not fully biased. I placed evidence after each statement given. This is how argumentative essays function. You give ideas but back it up through evidence and facts. Through Cornell notes, new information is gathered and absorbed. The research review Cornell notes helped me reflect my past research papers and learn what is appropriate to have on a research paper. It helps me focus on how the knowledge and ideas I gathered can be applied to my research paper. It guides me to write as third person and to have multiple sources to create credibility. The writing style for a research paper is authoritative which means direct. With this knowledge I can persuade the reader easily to accept my findings and ideas.
