Writing Skills Reflection
As I answered each question of the survey, I realized that none of my answers surprised me, and quite honestly, I felt relieved knowing exactly what my weaknesses are. I found comfort in knowing what I can develop upon. I have always struggled with writing. My mind will draw a blank, or I will panic that my writing is not good enough or meet requirements. I have always been well-organized and allow for efficient time to complete assignments. What stuck out to the most was no matter where I was in the writing process, I always fall into the same difficulties of worrying about the assignment and how well I will do.
I have found the two most important elements of the questionnaire to be my approach on writing and getting started on my assignments. I found that I am often overwhelmed leaving me to over-think my assignment, worry about the quality of work, and my confidence in finding information to complete assignment. I would especially like to change to my thought process throughout my work on my assignments. I need to become more confident and secure in my writing ability. I am also looking forward to learning how to look at things more critically. Ranking the approaches to revision was helpful to see where I may need to rethink my strategy and where it works. I found this approach very insightful and a great way to improve my revisions.

Throughout this semester I have received a lot of input and criticism on my essays from my TA, my professor and fellow students. This semester I was fortunate to receive quick, fairly reliable, built in feedback. From the feedback that I have received by taking this class I believe that I have become a better writer as it was beneficial for the most part. Feedback that I received from my fellow students was occasionally helpful. It typically varied from week to week. One week I would write a paper and get a ton of markings and criticism on it which was helpful because I was able to see what I did wrong and I would rarely have to get it proof read another time. Other times I would turn in a paper and it would come back with few markings and comments. This felt almost like a waste of time because I knew that I had more mistakes that I did not catch earlier. Because of this I would have to go out of my way and someone else would have to go out of their way to get it proof read again, or I would risk handing in the good copy with mistakes. One thing that I appreciated from peer evaluation days was that was able to see what worked in my paper, what did not and what I need to improve on.…

Over the course of this year in English, I think my writing process has excelled the most along with my overall writing. In the past, I have used similar techniques to develop a final essay, but, this year, I have begin to rely more heavily on planning out and slowly chipping away at my essays and papers. I believe also that because of this planning the strength of my writing as a whole has grown. Personally, I do not think that I grew in my vocabulary usage. Overall this year, I grew as a writer in ways that I would not have predicted.…

In school, we have been required to write many papers on many different subjects, some being timed and others not. Writing has never been something that has come easy to me, especially when put on the spot and told to write a paper in a certain amount of hours. When I write, I like to have time to think and plan my essay. Being able to revise and edit the paper makes it even better than it was before. When I am given the time to plan my essay, the writing has more depth than when I am put on the spot and have no time to think about what will go into my paper.…

Unfortunately, weaknesses are a challenge I do not cope with very well, especially in a scholastic setting. I was unaware of my writing weakness until English II displayed it in black and white. Furthermore, a considerable obstacle I found tough to overcome was confidence. Before turning in a test, a paper, or a project, I often underestimate myself in performing the task set before me. However, the results I receive constantly prove that I am capable of quality work. When my instructor assigned the first paper, I immediately began to focus all my efforts toward the assignment. After completing and submitting the paper, I patiently waited for the results. Not only did I earn a perfect score, I also received comments from my instructor stating how she admired…

As I think about my writing skills, I can identify several strengths and weaknesses. In regards to my strengths, I believe I do an excellent job avoiding repetition which helps ensure my writing is not redundant. I also believe that my writing is very direct and I do not ramble. Although I feel I’m proficient in proof reading other people’s writing, I find it difficult to critique my own. I am good at brainstorming ideas; however, I find it is difficult to express them. As I evaluate my additional weakness, it makes me a little nervous because I feel like I can name those so much easier. I know that I am a horrible speller, so I constantly use the spell check on my computer. If I am writing with pen and paper, I use the dictionary…

Writing is a universal skill and it is my skill. It takes effort and passion to become a writer. Then, using writing as a catalyst for expressing yourself and creating art. Proceeding my skill, I believe I was a different person. I had no way of expressing myself which is very important to me. I could not paint, draw, or sing so the creativity and feelings in my mind had nowhere to go. This frustration made me irrational and hypersensitive to others and myself. I would act immature and exaggerate situations. Throwing fits and yelling at others was not uncommon. People aren’t keen on unpredictable behavior, therefore not many people tolerate an unpredictable person. To illustrate this, I would talk excessively about a cartoon character, feel…
