Writing Techniques
Outcome one asks students to develop different techniques used to write in different writing styles. These techniques could be used to write a letter of recommendation, a personal statement or a grant proposal. Short assignment one shows that I have demonstrated the strategies proposed by outcome one. I have never written a lyric essay before short assignment one. It was a new experience and definitely helped improve my writing skills. Writing in a new or different genre or context can be difficult but English 131 has taught me the tools I need to pursue any type of writing. These different writing contexts could be personal statements, grant proposals or a professional email. In order to accomplish writing to different audiences utilize many different writing techniques and tools to pitch their ideas to their audience at hand. These tools could be the structure of the essay, the use of appeals, tone, syntax and diction. Another important point of outcome one is that I as a writer know how to manipulate my audience with writing techniques. The tools that sub point 1.4 and 1.5 use could be the structure of the essay, the use of appeals, tone, syntax and diction. In short assignment one I demonstrate that I successfully completed both subpoena 1.3, 1.4, 1.5 with the use of a personal tone. In my lyric essay I have a conversation with you, Maria Mills, to inform you about my past writing experiences and how I want to improve them in this class. The lyric essays I choose the use of a personal tone to show you that I could use many different writing techniques to persuade you and that I could write in and outside of the class room. The use of a first person speaker helped me as a writer have a conversation with you as my audience. I use sentences like “Without reading and listening to music I feel like my knowledge of both topics would be limited.” to persuade you that learning how write was similar yet different than learning who to play the flute for me. Writing in a first person also took my essay out of the academic setting, and shows that I can use writing techniques to do
