Input devices include: keyboard used for typed user input mouse used for point-and-click user input microphone used for voice and audio input scanner used for image input (scanning images) modem used for file transfer input (downloading files)
Output devices include: speakers used for audio output monitor used to display output printer used for generating printed output
4. Name and describe three special-purpose input devices and one output device people commonly use in by public places, such as stores, banks, and libraries?
INPUT
Touch screens are sometimes used in information kiosks.
Bar code readers are used to scan bar codes on products.
Magnetic strip readers are used to read information encoded on credit cards.

6. What are the advantages and disadvantages of flash memory devices over hard disks as storage media?
HARD DISK Advantages
Large storage capacity
Stores and retrieves data much faster than a floppy disk or CD-ROM
Data is not lost when you switch off the computer
Usually fixed inside the computer so cannot get mislaid.
Cheap on a cost per megabyte compared to other storage media.
Hard disks can be replaced and upgraded as necessary
Can have two hard disks in a machine, one can act as a mirror of the other and create a back up copy.
Disadvantages
Hard disks eventually fail which stops the computer from working.
Regular 'head' crashes can damage the surface of the disk, leading to loss of data in that sector.
The disk is fixed inside the computer and cannot easily be transferred to another computer.
FLASH MEMORY DEVICES The obvious initial appeal and great advantage of flash memory sticks is portability. A flash memory stick requires no power to operate and has no moving parts, so there is less danger of losing
