Text A is a story called “Everyday Use”, written by Alicia Walker, where she examines the theme of heritage, through three main characters, which are a mother and her two daughters, Dee and Maggie. The author achieves this by contrasting each character’s interpretation of heritage and culture. Text B is an extract of the last scene from a movie that adopts the story of “Everyday Use”. We have been taught that the word “text” usually means something that has writing included within, such as a book, but here in English 5B, we are shown that this is not necessarily the case. Text in this case means anything that we can derive meaning from, whether if it is from an advertisement, a speech, performance, a specific car, etc. It’s not just to the limitation of writing. We used certain text to help us write our Rhetorical analysis paper and analyze how the author communicates and persuades their message to the audience/ readers.…

At the Gym, written by Mark Doty; has no relation with being at the gym at all; metaphorically speaking it pertains to attending church. The narrative provided is from the author's observation of other people in the church. The primary metaphor of this poem is religiously based in the sense people have determination to release their burdens with the desire of overcoming tribulations through prayer. Many smaller metaphors inside the poem leading the reader to believe there is faith veiled throughout. This metaphor is explained in this essay by many other small metaphors; Salt-stain is really tears, the vinyl is from the pews/benches in the church. How this metaphor references something manmade, the association of grief emotions in this poem such as hopelessness and despair. While more positive emotions of relief and hope are set forth; leading one to happiness. Many hidden religious aspects contained throughout the poem are brought to light.…
From above Cross tabulation of two aspects of our survey, time spend by students on Social networking sites and time spent by students talking face to face with family and friends shows that maximum number students who surveyed spend time more on social networking sites and chatting with friends rather talking with family face to face. Cross Tabulation shows that maximum people spend time ranging from 10 mins to 6 hours on SNS. People spent time with talking with family face to face is 0 to 10 mins. These relationship shows negative co-relation between time spent with friends on SNS and time spent talking with friends face to face. But we can’t say that the negative relation is only because of the more time spent on SNS. We survey students of Institute of Management, Nirma University who are studying in hostel and staying away from home. So they get less time to talk to family members and only on phone they can talk to family which reduces the time. It is possible that in normal life when they are at home, result may be…

Throughout my writing career, I have observed several aspects with the potential to shape any writer’s success. Among the elements, the most influential of them is the English course in which the student enrolls. Moreover, English courses hold influence over a student’s life in that they have a responsibility to either advance or reduce the writer’s skills. The progress in my writing development began when English II guided me through noticing worth in my writing, finding pride in a strength, and appreciating positive aspects of the course.…
After reading “The Writing Process” in chapter 2, I learned the major aspects to writing a well-developed essay. The methods in developing an essay are: finding a focus, developing a thesis statement, drafting, and editing. Firstly, finding a focus plays a crucial part because when there are many ideas in mind people tend to have trouble focusing on one topic. After settling on a topic, the next step would be to create a thesis statement. The thesis is a statement that relates to all the ideas and the essay should be centered on the statement. Likewise, drafting brings in a lot of ideas for a paper. Drafting essays allows plenty of editing time. While editing essays, one might come across grammatical errors. Identifying errors and correcting them will make the essays sharp and to the point.…
