Wrongly Accused

“Ring Ring Ring...” the school bell sounded. Lunch has just ended and everyone was supposed to be in their classes by now. Sydney, my best friend, a careless and clumsy girl, approached my group of friends and me. I carried a happy feeling and smile to school as spring break just ended and this was the first day of school, expecting a ‘hi’ from her. “Did you STEAL my phone from my locker?” Sydney questioned me really loud and in a mean way as if I’m a prisoner. A happy and joyous feeling just turned into madness in me. Who do you think you are? I have an iPhone 4g and I don’t need a Samsung phone like yours!!! But of course, I didn’t say that. “NO! Why would I?” I answered. Why is she blaming me for something I haven’t even done? True I’m her closest friend, true that I know her lock combination, and true that she’s mad at me for having a sleepover with another friend, but she doesn’t have to accuse me wrongly! I thought to myself as I was fuming mad while also turning red in embarrassment. Whole minutes go by and Sydney just stares right at me. I didn’t know what to do! Just stand right there in the middle of the hallway waiting for the principle or be late for class or just ignore her and walk away? As we stood there, stunned, I heard heavy footsteps coming towards us. I turned around and saw...THE.
Here’s their conversation...I was so pleased that Mr. Pratt appeared.
“Who is Sydney?” he asked.
“I am,” Sydney answered.
“Well you are blaming Madeline for stealing your phone?” “Yes, because she’s the only person that knows my lock combination” “Come to my office.” I had no idea what will happen to Sydney in the office. Will she get detention for wrongly accusing me? Even though she can be mean sometimes, she’s STILL my best friend. A few minutes passed and... “Hello everyone, welcome back to school! I would like to request for everyone to look for a Samsung cell phone that belongs to Sydney Kim Minji.

I'm six years old, and I'm secretly watching the girls in my class loudly chatting in the corner of the classroom. It's 2008, and I'm quietly sitting on my desk, wondering to myself: "Am I not important enough for a simple goodbye?". I nervously shift on the chair, impatiently waiting for the minutes to tick by. My red sweater is itching against my throat. The teacher came in and we begin class as usual. Ms. Claudia is talking about our final reflections…

You, Anthony and I were in the cafeteria playing on our Ipads. Anthony took your phone off the table and handed it to me under the table. You saw it and took it back. Then Anthony made a gesture and it looked like he wanted me to grab it( I had no intentions of stealing it). so I did grab it and went to the locker room. I found a paper clip on the floor and picked it up and took the sim card out just in case it rang and I got a Jug. as I was going to put the sim card in the back of the case I saw you and Anthony and I got scared because Anthony popped up out of nowhere and I dropped the sim card. when you went back to the cafeteria you turned on the phone and it said "no service" so you checked the side of it (where the sim card slot is)…

    Wrongful Conviction

Imagine a completely innocent individual being convicted for a crime he or she had no involvement in but being in the wrong place at the wrong time. The individual lives out his or her jail sentence in an orderly fashion only to be found not guilty after more than a decade with the discovery of vital evidence produced by advanced technology. This is just one of countless cases of wrongful conviction of innocent people by the justice system. Since 1989, countless of cases were found wrongfully convicted after the case had been closed, but were reopened thanks to the advancement in the justice system such as the usage of DNA testing. Problem is, if this is the state of our justice system at the moment, where there is such a large chance of someone being wrongfully accused and having to serve in prison for so many years and only to be released after the damage has already been done, one would always fear that type of justice system. The innocent should fear the justice system no matter how…

My phone rang, the only person who had my new number was kaylei; my wife. I rushed into my pockets trying to find my phone, but it was like it had been stitched into the lining of the blasted jacket as I searched hand over fist through it until finally; I’d found it. I answered to Kaylei on the receiving end only for her confirm what I’d feared the most, they’d been taken. A man with a familiar sounding voice then began to speak before I could ask anything, “ you have something that belongs to me, and I want it back”, I asked him what did he want from me to which he butted in and said, “You’ve got 1 hour to bring it to me at the Beach Hotel; room 307 or they will both lose their lives”! The phone went dead. At that moment my legs were trembling and I felt like throwing up again, “pull yourself together”, I thought. I didn’t know what this man wanted or whether he was capable of harming an innocent child and mother, but I wasn’t prepared to take that chance. I decided the only thing I could do was to go to the hotel and deal with this guy in person; since he’d not been so kind to leave me his number, but he did invite me to his room.…
