In my opinion the most important factor that developed youth culture was the Demographic change in numbers of young people. This happened because of the ‘baby boom’ (an increase in birth rate after the war, in 1939-45). Many couples during the war had been separated for a period of six years which meant once the war was over they were reunited. many children born at this time were not ‘teenagers’ until late 1950’s but they did ensure that youth culture grew as a cultural form.
Another important factor for the development was the economic changes in society. During the 1950’s it was a period of rapid economic growth. Because lots of housing and industry was destroyed during the war there was a huge reconstruction. This led to a high demand on workers.
