WWII DBQ
During the early 1920s, World War I had just ended, and many countries were not happy with the outcome. The Treaty of Versailles was a poor settlement to World War I, and left three particular countries unhappy; Germany, Italy, and Japan. The Treaty of Versailles left many limitations on Germany, and failed to give Italy and Japan the recognition they deserved. During the 1930s, these countries decided to take action, and fight for what they wanted. Though both appeasement and collective security were taken in response, collective security proved to be the more effective response to the aggression. Followed by World War I, Germany had received many limitations from the Treaty of Versailles. The leaders at the Paris Peace Conference decided they wanted to get “revenge” on Germany, and decided to take everything they valued away. The Treaty of Versailles took Germany’s army, and their air force. It also made them pay everyone who was involved in World War I’s war debt. This enraged Germany, but would later feed them the fuel they needed to rebuild the country. When Hitler came to power, he was more than ready to rebuild Germany to its normal status. The second he got a chance to do this, he took it. “Berlin, March 7-Germany today cast off the last shackles fastened upon her by the Treaty of Versailles when Adolf Hitler, as commander-in-chief of the Reich defense forces, sent his new battalions into the Rhineland’s demilitarized zone.... “After three years of ceaseless battle,” Hitler concluded, “I look upon this day as marking the close of the struggle for German equality status and with that re-won equality the path is now clear for Germany’s return to European collective cooperation” (The New York Times, Doc 3). Here, this is showing that Hitler knew what he had to do to get what he wanted, and did it. In order for him to rebuild Germany, he needed supplies. All of Germany’s natural resources were located in the demilitarized zone, and Hitler needed it.

The reason for US neutrality in the 1920s and 1930s was because the US has always been accustomed to isolation. They wanted to go back to “normalcy.” They tried to refrain the country from getting involved in foreign affairs that would require resources. There was a lot of social changes going on during this period of time for groups such as women having the ability to vote and African Americans being more seen as equal. In the late 1920s and early 1930s, certain novels and journals were making claims regarding the idea that some manufacturers were pushing the country into World War One in order to obtain a profit from it. The senate started to investigate these claims, but in the end did not find any evidence that made this statement factual.…

Fathers and fathers sons marched by the doors of daughters and distraught wives in the pursuit of their country's freedom. World War 1 was fought from July 1914 to November 1918. The main powers involved were Great Britain, France, Russia, Italy, Germany, and Austria-Hungary. The war predominantly took place in Europe. What we want to know is, what was the hidden cause of WWI. Of the three most important causes of WW1, the main cause was militarism.…

The Treaty of Versailles was written by the Allied powers to ensure that Germany would never again be able to wage war on the scale that had just happened. As part of the treaty, the Allies imposed war reparations. War reparations are payments made to cover the damages and injuries inflicted during combat. These reparations totaled to $400 billion when adjusted for inflation (Hooper Binder). Due to the massive debt put on Germany, their economy could not handle it and thus collapsed. This collapse put many people out of work. When the government printed more and more money to try and solve the problem the inflation only increased even more. Hitler took advantage of the feelings of the German people and promised to stop the reparations, bring people jobs, and make them proud to be German again (Rise of Hitler). Only because of the way Germany was treated as by the Allies their people turned towards a leader such as Hitler who was promising to lead Germany into its former glory and…

Before the Union had won in 1865, we were faced with many challenges after the war ended. One of the main challenges post-war was the mixture of 4 million newly released African Americans in the nation and some federal representation from former states in the rebellion. Since then the Thirteenth, Fourteenth, and Fifteenth Amendments were added to the Constitution which explained civil rights and legal protection to any former slaves during this…

Germany's inability to pay war reparations as specified in the Treaty of Versailles was caused by the main industrial areas of Germany being taken away. Inflation, a result of the attempt to pay war reparations, severely crippled the population, especially the lower middle class. The deprived people of Germany feel easily into the hands of authoritarian parties such as the Nazis and the Communist. The Treaty also forced Germany to limit its armed forces and forbade them from having an air force, which created a bitter resentment towards the victors of WWI. As a result of the Treaty of Versailles and the economic disasters that followed, the German people became very resentful towards the victors of World War I, namely France and England. Additionally, virtually all of Germany's leaders fought in World War I and many were wounded and they all felt betrayed. They were eager for revenge. One of these WWI veterans happened to be a man named Hitler, Adolf Hitler. Hitler blamed economic problems on the allies who had forced the peace terms of the Treaty of Versailles on Germany. He joined the Nazi party which…

Hitler promised to tear up the Versailles Treaty. Specifically, the treaty forbade German troops from entering the Rhineland, a buffer zone between Germany and France. The New York Times explains that reaction in Berlin, March 7 as: “Hitler concluded, ‘I look upon this day as marking the close of the struggle for German equality status and with that re-won equality the path is now clear for Germany’s return to European collective cooperation.”(Doc. 3) Hitler put some of his troops In the Rhineland to take defiance of the Versailles Treaty. He explains his action as marking the close of struggle for Germany and that he re-won equality clearing the path for cooperation. In contrast, the reaction in Paris states that they see no negotiation with Germany. “What is essential, in the French view, is that the German government must be compelled by diplomatic pressure first and by stronger pressure if need be, to withdraw from the Rhineland.” (Doc. 3)…
