I have wanted to go to Shawnee State since my 11th grade year when we had college day at our school, and I got to talk to them and found out they have a radiology program available. Radiology has been what I have wanted to go to college for since 7th grade but more recently, I have fallen in love with Medical Assistant and Dental Hygiene. I have always loved helping people (even though I have the patience of a new mother with 6 children) so the medical field has always interested me. The definition for a radiologic technologist is "Radiologic technologists are the medical personnel who perform…

There are various names for this type of work, but you are referred to as a Radiologic Technology. When you are advancing your college degree there are many different options that you can choose from in this field,…
I started my career in the healthcare field as a unit clerk. My primary duties were answering the telephone and call light system. After about a year, I wanted to do more so I decided to become a certified nursing assistant (CNA). My duties as a CNA entailed helping patients/residents with their activities of daily living. I quickly realized that I did not want to play that particular role in the healthcare field and that I needed to do more. I applied for the licensed practical nurse program and was accepted. After graduating and passing my state board exam, I worked as a licensed practical nurse for six and a half years before applying for the associate degree nursing program for registered nurses. I was accepted and after completion my career as a registered nurse began.…
There are many career options in the United States today, and you can literally be anything you desire as long as you have the motivation and drive to complete your educational requirements. With so many professions to choose from it can be extremely difficult to decide which career path is the right one for you. Right now the health care industry is booming and there are many careers to choose from within this field. As for me I would like to be in a rewarding career that has the opportunity to help others where I am valued and respected along with the added incentive of competitive pay, benefits, reasonable hours and positive job outlook, this is why I have chosen to major in Diagnostic Medical Sonography. I am positive this…
The application process was scary for me because I was nervous about the responsibilities I would encounter as a CNA. One person who really helped me was my boyfriend’s mom, Susan. Susan was a nurse for thirty-four years and I reached out to her because of the many years of experience she had. She had told me that the smartest thing to do in the journey to becoming a nurse practitioner was to start out as a CNA and then, after completing high school, enrolling in a LPN program and then furthering on from there. I also talked to my cousin who is a diagnostic medical sonographer and she had told me if I wanted to become a nurse, taking classes that apply and working as a CNA is my best option. In addition, I read a book called Being a Nursing Assistant by Francie Wolgan. Wolgan talked about the benefits of starting of as a CNA and how that would affect me in college. The book had enlightened me and had a big influence on my final decision in applying to Allegiance Assisted Living, which is a nursing home around my area. The application was very simple and at first I did not need to provide proof of my training. It was almost like any other application, which was highly unexpected for me. After turning in the application, it only took about a week and a half to hear from them and when I went to the interview I got the job right away. Therefore, applying to a CNA position was just that next step I needed to take in regards to my…
As an undergraduate at IUPUI, I'm eager to pursue my goal and obtain an associates degree in radiography. Accomplishing this goal would be a major deal to me as it will be the opening gate to my career as a radiologist. I expect to use my degree to full use and dive straight into the medical field directly after graduation. My plan is to start my career as radiographer at any hospital and to eventually specialize as an MRI technician. From that point in my career the goal is to continuously advance through the field becoming a radiologist assistant and one day be a full time radiologist physician. I believe IUPUI will guide me the right direction in doing what I want to do for the rest of my life.…

The next step to becoming a Radiologist I will stay focused in college. I will start by getting out of my old habits like staying off my phone during class. This will keep me from wondering off and actually paying attention to what the instructor is teaching the class. In addition, I won’t be bothered by my friends and will finish all my work that is due at…
As I mentioned earlier I attended CNA Travel School which placed me in a simulated hospital setting. I first wanted to be a Certified Nursing Assist (CNA) at the age 16. I had to do community service for Graffiti. I was given a job as an activity assistant at a nursing home. I enjoyed it so much! The people there are so much fun to work with. The best part about it was being able to help them read the paper, play bingo, or whatever they wanted to do. Once a lady and her sister were pushing chairs down the hallway and I asked “what are you doing?” They told me they were taking a train ride to see their father for his birthday. It made me feel sad because I had to explain to them that they were going the wrong way, so I helped them back to their room. Once there, I explained to them that they lived here at the nursing home and were not going anywhere. It was at that moment, I wanted to really be in the nursing field to be able to make a positive impression on someone else’s life.…
Before becoming a CNA, my life had been turned upside down. I had started college, but did not do well due to some trauma in my life. I had given birth to a child during my first semester of school, and during the second semester, his father tragically passed away. Although I had tried to continue with school, I was not ready. Soon after leaving Ivy Tech, I had found a place where I could get CNA training, and they were willing to work with me so that I could pay for it. By the time…
