Both the Xbox One and PS4 are only available in black, but VERY rare white Xbox Ones were given out to the employees at Microsoft and some are probably for sale online at ridiculous prices. The Xbox One measures at 13.5 in. x 10.4 in. x 3.2 in. while the smaller PS4 is 10.8 in. x 12 in. x 2 in. The PS4 also has a slightly angled shape that makes it stand out a little more in a game room versus the Xbox One that is more heavy but is rectangular …show more content…
to fit in more spaces. Another difference is the Xbox One has vents everywhere to cool the system and prevent the “red ring of death”, and the PS4 has a crevasse going around the console to split up the dark design.
The hardware is where things get interesting.
Xbox One has both High Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) input and output whereas the PS4 has only the output. The PS4 has no USB ports for flash drives or any headset that needs a USB plugged in the system. Xbox One now has two USB ports for flash drives for extra storage and allows you to use a mouse and keyboard to play (if the game is compatible). Xbox One and PS4 both have more power than their predecessors and both Microsoft and Sony have used the past models design flaws to improve the latest consoles. Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is a chip manufacturer that makes the hardware chips for both consoles, the Xbox One has a 1.75 GHz AMD 8-core CPU, while the PS4 has a 1.6 GHz AMD 8-core CPU. The difference means Xbox One has an 10% increase in processing power compared to the PS4 . The graphics card will affect how fast graphics load and how good they look. Xbox One has an AMD Radeon GPU with 1.31 teraflops, but the PS4 beats it in this category with a AMD Radeon GPU of 1.84 teraflops. Xbox One supports both 2.4 GHz and 5GHz, PS4 has limitations to 2.4GHz
channels.
The Xbox One and PS4 both have around 600 playable games, with Xbox having the larger library, but the PS4 has more exclusive games for that console. Whereas the quality of these exclusives are relatively the same, the main genres for these games are different between the consoles with Xbox games more first person shooter and Playstation more rpg and action/puzzle games. One of the major differences between the Xbox One and PS4 is that Downloadable Content (DLC) releases on Xbox on average a week before Playstation, this is big if you are a person who likes to get DLC right away. Another big change with these new consoles are the incorporation of Independent Games, Independent Game developers are now able to get their games on consoles for people who do not have computers to play. The Playstation has game development kits for sale for thousands of dollars, but has regular individuals making good games left and right on their console. Microsoft has promised game development kits for free on the Xbox One, but still has not followed through as October 11 2016. The Xbox One has a brand new feature that allows you to play Xbox 360 games on the newer console without having to rebuy them, Playstation has a paid prescription service that allows you to play their old games on the new console, but why pay for a game you already have?
So looking at the designs, hardware, and content it safe to say that which console is better is up to personal opinion. The PS4 is selling 2 to 1 compared to the Xbox One and has better graphics, changeable hard drives, smaller mass, and more content. The Xbox One is a staple in a youtube gaming setup for it’s ease of recording and its multipurpose use of the controller for use with a computer. One thing is for sure with these two consoles, they are top edge technology and with Microsoft and Sony in a constant rivalry means the new consoles will get better and better.
