Yakult
I. Name of the Company

[pic]

Yakult is a pro biotic milk-like product made by fermenting a mixture of skimmed milk with a special strain of the bacterium Ltobacillus casei Shirota. It was created by Japanese scientist Minoru Shirota, who graduated from the Medical School of Kyoto University in 1930. In 1935, he started manufacturing and selling Yakult. Official claims state that the name is derived from jahurto, an older form of jogurto, the Turkish word for "yoghurt". Since then, Yakult has also introduced a line of beverages for the Japanese market that contain Bifidobacterium breve bacteria, and has also used its lactobacilli research to develop cosmetics. More recently, the Yakult Honsha played a major role in developing the chemotherapy drug irinotecan (Camptosar, CPT-11). After its introduction in Japan and Taiwan, Yakult was first sold in Brazil in 1966 due to the large number of Japanese immigrants in the country, before it was marketed elsewhere. Today, Yakult is sold in 31 countries, although its bacteria cultures are provided from a mother strain from Japan regardless of production location. Yakult is marketed in different sizes. In Australia, Europe, India, Indonesia, and Vietnam Yakult comes in 65mL bottles. In the Americas (including Mexico, one of Yakult's largest selling markets), Japan, Philippines, Thailand and South Korea, 80 ml bottles are available. It is also available in Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan and mainland China where Yakult comes in 100 ml bottles. The product is made by Yakult Honsha Co., Ltd. ( 株式会社ヤクルト本社 Kabushiki-gaisha Yakuruto Honsha?) (TYO: 2267), where GroupeDanone has a 20% share. The company also owns one of Japan's major baseball franchises, the Tokyo Yakult Swallows. It has been also one of the partner companies of the FINA World Aquatics Championships since 2005. II. Products

Yap Penraat (born on April 11th, 1918 in Amsterdam, Netherlands; died on June 25th, 2006 in New York) was an interior designer, sculpture, architect (for tiles and statues), and a Dutch resistance fighter during World War II. Penraat always had respect for the Jews; ever since he was a child he would switch the lights for Shabbat, which was forbidden to do for a Jew at the time. He started his resistance activities when the Nazis first started to occupy the Netherlands. He began by taking a risk and forging identity papers for the Jews, which led him to several months of imprisonment. Though, that did not stop him, and he successfully smuggled 406 people from the Netherlands and led them to safety in Spain. He did this via France; he used his forgery skills to convince France that the Jews were slave laborers for the Atlantic Wall and only lost one man in the process. With sacrifice came hardship; he was tortured by the Nazis, but revealed nothing of his effort. Once he was released he continued his activities, but it became too risky and he went into hiding for the remainder of the war. After the war, he moved to America and started to tell of his experiences, with the convincing of his daughters to let the world know about his heroism. Yap Penraats commitment to guiding those Jews to safety paid off and was awarded the designation of: “The Righteous among the Nations” in 1988. Penraat was one of the small minorities that recognized that the Jews were like everyone else and that they had rights. Yap Penraat and all of the other Righteous of the Nations taught us to believe in the equality of all human beings and that anyone can make a difference.…

The Smiths do their groceries every weekend. These are elaborately planned with Mrs. Smith making a list of requirements for the entire family over the week. She never forgets to replenish their stock of Caribbean coffee as her husband, a writer, generally feels groggy and sleepy after lunch in the afternoon. The coffee keeps him awake at such times. Fruits are a “must-buy” for the family. Everyone including their three children loves apples. However, Mrs. Smith refrains from buying apples when they are not in season as they tend to be more expensive. This weekend, she bought a new brand of pasta that her children insisted on buying as they were tempted by its commercial that comes on TV everyday at dinnertime. She also bought a packet of cocoa powder even though it was not on the list. She realized she needed it as she was attending chocolate-making classes. She has a weakness for milk chocolates and cannot resist the temptation to buy them. The Smiths don’t have a strict budget for these shopping trips. More often than not, Mrs. Smith relies on her memory to keep a tab on their expenditure. What matters most to them is that everyone in the family should get what they want.…

Slavery began in America when the first African slaves were brought to Virginia in the 16th century. Slavery assisted in the formation, growth, and development of the United States both the north and the south. It had a huge impact on the growth of an emerging nation, increasing economic growth, urbanization, and industrialization of the United States. During the first half of the 19th century, criticism and defenses of slavery evolved, but many slave owners disagreed that slaves should be freed and given the same rights of white men. The disagreements about whether slaves should be considered equal to white men created more conflict between the North and South in the 19th century, causing the Civil war to be an irrepressible conflict.…

The natural enzymes of the stomach broke down and curdled the milk creating yogurt. When this happened they discovered the milk would last longer, and people seemed to prefer the taste.[ Dairy Goodness. “The History of Yougurt.” Dairy Goodness, Accessed November 20, 2015, https://www.dairygoodness.ca/yogurt/the-history-of-yogurt] Greeks have been using yogurt as apart of their diet for centuries. They cultivated their own technique by straining out the whey, creating what is popularly known as Greek yogurt. This type of yogurt is found everywhere in Greece, but did not become available on the market until a company named Fage began to manufacture it. Other Greek companies also began manufacturing this yogurt. Fage took it up a notch when it brought Greek yogurt to a national…
