This artwork represents the interrelationship between life and death. The cabinet is organised with vibrant colours of extravagantly alive objects with beauty and fragility on top of the objects that are camouflage colours, which symbolise war and unrest. The objects within the cabinet are similar and yet, contrast one another. This artwork shows the juxtaposition of nature and the threats that arose as conflict did. Hall has used great amounts of symbolism to create effect and evoke emotion. The purpose of the cabinet is to represent the morgue, a sense of captivity and helplessness. The cabinet holds many flowers, vibrant and beautiful, also holds a camouflage poppy flower. The poppy is a symbol of war. After a battle of WW1 red poppy’s sprouted in the battlefield. Ronald Takaki’s goal in writing A Different Mirror: a History of Multicultural America was to show that American history may not be as black and white as most people think it is. He wants to inform people that our history has more than one perspective to it. Like when he points out that even though he was born in the U.S, yet when people see him they assume he’s not American. Furthermore, the books contain an emotional depth that draws the viewer in. The illustrations portray a sense of dark, yet humble beauty with several layers of meaning and rich sentiment. Tan’s distinguished mixed media illustrations contain an infusion of riveting metaphors, fantasy, subtle symbolism and a mixture of art techniques ranging from cut paper collages to surrealist paintings. One corner is our reading and quiet corner we have placed big cushions sofa chair and a bookcase with some additional books put onto the chair so this becomes a soft and cosy area for the children and so they realise that they can help themselves to the resources we also place some of the puppets and soft toys such as teddies on the cushions, this then enables the area to be inviting for the children. We also have a craft station where there are scissors, glue, colouring pencils, Sellotape and craft boxes so they can make projects on their own or with their peers. We always consider the impact of a colour that then reflects on a child’s emotions, research has shown that the colour yellow is recognised faster than any other colour, this colour also evokes spontaneity, and is joyful, optimistic, warm and signifies communication as well as being bright and happy. We need to make sure the room has a variety of different and stimulating toys, and that there is enough space for all the children to move around comfortably and have access around the room/rooms indoors and outdoors in the play area. The room should always be well lit and everything visible so the children and young people can see properly and communicate with each other…
Number puppies, games, painting, library book stand, board displays covering topics e.g. seasons and topics/ themes, wall displays covered from top to bottom, with numbers, letter sounds, children’s names and birthdays, jobs, rules, days of the week, months of the year, sticker charts for individual children and for best table, these colourful displays are very important for the teacher in challenging the children’s learning and thinking, while promoting a caring environment where children’s learning is developed within the context of their individual needs and abilities.…
I conducted my observation in the reading room of McCain Library, also known as the nap room by many Agnes Scott students. The reading room is a long rectangular space that is very open and has one wall covered in ceiling to floor windows. There are a few paintings and a large fireplace, with a big sofa right in front of it, at the end of the room. The majority of the couches are faced directly towards the windows, where students can people watch while studying. The rest of the room is decorated with several chairs and matching ottomans. There are a few end tables with lamps and coffee cups and students’ keys sitting on top of them. There are also two large dining room tables with four chairs around them, but no one seems to be sitting at the table.…
Always Smiling, always is a piece is by Russell Noto created in 2014, and is located on the first floor of the Jen library. This piece jumped out at me for many reasons; it had this complex and thought out color scheme, you had light and happy colors in one and then ominous dark colors to really pop out against the white wall background, and with it consisting of two parts you had to do a double take to ponder if they were just obscenely close, or if these very different works of art were actually one whole in the greater layout of everything. Throughout high school we have always been tasked with different materials to read; whether it be Shakespearean texts, short stories, poems, or just books in general. No matter what though, I love to read. So any text I take in, I am always eager to absorb the words. The texts I have read at the time may have just felt like assignments, but now as I am older, I can see the lessons to be learned within them and how they were a major aspect as to how I view situations in the world around me. I cannot pick a favorite text that I have read throughout my grades nine to twelve years, but I will review a few that made an impact on me.…
First, I gave you five rhyme pieces which you had to colour in. You had a selection of dye, crayons, and coloured pencils to use. You chose to use green, red, purple, blue and brown. You especially liked using the brown colour. I was really maere (impressed) that you coloured in all your rhyme pieces. Your ability to concentrate on a task that interests you for a long duration has really increased. The colouring in processes took you quite a while to complete. At the beginning of this unit I knew little to nothing about the world outside the boundaries created by my mother, which is a mile radius of my house. I cared an infinitesimal amount about things that didn't affect me directly. However, that changed drastically after reading The Story of Zahra and also after the presentation of my fellow peers. The aspect that caught my attention the most was the treatment of women, just because of the fact that I can relate to it the most. I have always known that women were inferior in comparison to men, that was common sense to me and about 50% of the world population. Despite the fact that I knew the struggle most women in other countries have to endure I was naïve to the exact extent that they had to struggle. Reading The Story of Zahra took some of that ignorance I had and widen up my perception greatly.…
While the walls were decorated with artwork, the tone, or mood, of the school made the place seem dreary. An enormous reason for this was the principal, who would only leave her office in order to yell at students. As one can imagine, the kids were not fond of the principal. They would often mock her voice when she came on the loud speaker. Her vigilance made my classmates more willing to act out, and was counteractive. This created a harsh, or uncomfortable learning environment. Children feared the principal’s punishments, and I believe a student should never feel fear in a learning environment. Therefore, unfortunately, we did not enjoy waking up every morning to go to school. Overall, I believe this showed in the schools…
