The quote is from Yennefer after a violent pogrom erupted in Rivia in which human citizens rampaged against non-humans. Yennefer, despite the raging threats against her, refused to leave Geralt behind. She died trying to revive Geralt due to the immense amount of magic required.

Yennefer’s extreme sacrifices for Geralt demonstrated her will and commitment to protect her family. Anger comes into the picture as Guenever grows, but not in a good way because she still awaits for Lancelot. It is questioned if the months that go by are holy or more of selfishness in order “to abandon another soul so as to save your own” (474). Selfishness screams anger in any matter, especially in a crisis of love. It may leave the question, is it right for one to leave another hanging alone for your own concerns? According to White, Guenever “was not an insensate piece of property, to be taken up or laid down…

A 48-year-old Carnegie hero once said, while rescuing a woman from drowning in the Pacific Ocean, “‘I’m going to get her out of here. One way or another… I’m going to do it.’” This is just a simple statement of a man’s heroic determination that saved the life of a woman in the Pacific Ocean. Although saving a life, such as this Carnegie hero did, is a perfect example of how determination did good, less severe situations also happen and end with positive outcomes. Often determination is easily seen as competition and not a necessary need of doing something. Differing from the Carnegie heroes event, Beowulf expresses his determination to defeat Grendel, the monstrous creature of the poem, by explaining to Unferth, a warrior, that Grendel does not fear him and continues by saying, “I will show him how Geats shape to kill / in the heat of battle (41).” Without a doubt, these words are powerful and point directly to Beowulf’s determination to do good for those affected by Grendel’s past attacks. The boast Beowulf gives becomes a reality and proves his determination to defeat Grendel to be true. Beowulf’s determination to defeat Grendel amazingly becomes a new scenario for Beowulf’s determination when he fights Grendel’s mother to retrieves Grendel’s head. The narrator expresses Beowulf’s cause for determination as revenge by…

Today was the day I lost my son and the great Beowulf is to blame. I feel it. I feel the emptiness that comes when a mother loses her child. I hear my son calling out for me, wishing I was there to help. I feel the broken bones and the screams that my child, my sweet baby boy, made while Beowulf tore him from this world. I feel the anger, and the ferocity of a mother bear, but i have failed to protect my cub. I have traveled to the surface, far from the safety and comfort of my cave beneath the water, to kill beowulf. I have captured him and i will kill him. His puny blade does no damage to me, for i am too strong for him. I am winning, the life slowly draining from Beowulf’s body, until i remember my greatest weakness; I am the only one who…

The two rulers are very loyal to their kingdom and their subjects. Beowulf quickly “accused himself of breaking God’s law” after the dragon had incinerated Geatland (708-709). He considers himself and his citizens as an entire entity. If a person causes fault to his rule, then everyone, including himself is blamed. Ulysses invites his subjects to travel with him as he concludes that “it’s not too late to seek a newer world” (57). He would love to carry his people to a better world and make them happy. His compassion is what makes him an epic hero in the poem. At the last moments of his life, Beowulf crowns his nephew, Wiglaf, for he is the “last of [their] far-flung family” (1036). The dying king knows that Wiglaf will lead the Geats to glory. Wiglaf is loyal to his cousin to the bitter end. The love toward their people shows throughout the entire poem.…
