In today's society, men and women are often equal when it comes to a serious relationship and/or marriage. The woman will not be afraid to speak up to her husband, nor will her husband neglect her from that right. Shakespeare's play took place in the Elizabethan Era, when women did not have the same rights they do today, therefore, the way the play was written fit in the public’s standards. However, unlike Shakespeare, Doyle wrote her book in the 21st century; where women and men are treated in the same way. As a result, Iovine and Doyle did not please the common people.
