1. Twisted Pair Wire

Physical Specification:

-Twisted pair wire is a type of wiring in which two conductors of a single circuit are twisted together for the purposes of canceling outelectromagnetic interference (EMI) from external sources; for instance, electromagnetic radiation from unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cables, and crosstalk between neighboring pairs. It was invented by Alexander Graham Bell.

Advantages and Disadvantages:

Advantages
-Twisted pair cabling is a type of wiring where two conductors are twisted together in order to cancel out electromagnetic interference from external sources. This type of cabling was invented by Alexander Graham Bell, the inventor of the telephone. One of the types of twisted pair cabling is UTP, or unshielded twisted pair. It is normally used in Ethernet and telephone systems

Disadvantages
-Disadvantages of twisted pair cable are, the cable will require direct p2p connection (point to point), for example straight from one computer to another. It will also be incompatible if connecting to more than one computer by going through a switch or hub. Cross over cables should only be used when one computer needs to connect to another one right next to it, or if you are linking to a router to configure it.

How data is transmitted:

-A method for transmitting data packets, grouped as data octets, over a LAN having a central hub linked to each of a plurality of network nodes via a physical medium consisting of four pairs of unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cable. The transmission method sequentially divides the data into data quintets. The quintets are then arranged into blocks of data quintets and sequentially distributed into four individual serial code streams. The four serial code streams are sequentially scrambled to produce four streams of randomized quintets. The

On a TWISTED PAIR CABLE I chose to install an RJ-45. This is the standard Ethernet connector for most systems used today. I would first measure out the length of cable that I would need. I would then use a wire cutter to cut the length that I need, leaving enough room for corrections and to open the wire. I would then use wire strippers to remove a small piece of the outer most jacket. I would then choose what connection I wanted to make (568A or 568B). I would then untwist the wires and put them in the correct color order that I need. Then I would flatten out the wires and in one hand hold my RJ-45 connector and then with the other hand feed the wires into the connector. This is usually pretty simple with the way the connectors are made, and they are also usually clear. After I’m sure that the wires are in the connector all the way, and in the right order, I would use a wire crimper to clamp the wires securely into the connector.…

The Wiremap test is used to identify physical errors of the installation; proper pin termination at each end, shorts between any two or more wires, continuity to the remote end, split pairs, crossed pairs, reversed pairs, and any other mis-wiring. It tests four-pair data and voice cable links terminated with standard, modular, eight-position RJ45 jacks. Shielded ports test both shielded and unshielded cabling. This is essential for just about any network as telephones (voice) are also used in conjunction with data communications. This tester should be a part of every cable installation kit.…

Unshielded Twisted-Pair: (1) A pair of copper wires twisted together with no electromagnetic shielding around them. (2) A cable containing multiple pairs of UTP wire. Each wire pair is twisted many times per foot (higher grade UTP cable can have more than 20 twists per foot). The twists serve to cancel out electromagnetic interference that the trans-mission of electrical signal through the pairs generates. An unshielded jacket made of some type of plastic…

Backbone cable- is a cable connection between telecommunications or wiring closets, floor distribution terminals, entrance facilities, and equipment rooms either within or between buildings. This cable can service voice communications or data communications. In star-topology data networks, the backbone cable interconnects hubs and similar devices, as opposed to cables running between hub and station. In a bus topology data network, it is the bus cable. Backbone is also called riser cable, vertical cable, or trunk cable.…

Complete the entries in Table 4- 1. Use your textbook and Internet research to compose your answer. The common connector for interfacing UTP wires to a computer for networking is the Registered Jack 45 ( RJ- 45) interface. This uses eight copper wires ( four twisted pairs) to complete the connection between interfaces. The pinout for these wires defines the order in which the individual wires connect to the network interface card and how the wires transition from one end of the cable to the other. A straight cable is used to connect a device to a network hub or switch. This type of cable does not change the wiring…
