Yoshiko Uchida The Wise Old Woman Analysis

In the story "The Wise Old Woman" is a Japanese folk tale,by Yoshiko Uchida , is about how a young leader does not approve on the elderly being in his village and later on realizes his mistake. This folk tale basically tells, just because one can not do something doesn't mean they can not guide us with their wisdom. This shows how the elderly can give good ideas and confidence,without being able to work and have a living. You can tell how the characters feel about their cruel leader and his rules through their feelings, and actions.

First you can tell how the characters reactions by their Feelings. The young farmers Feelings for the non necessary rule is that he is angry, and sad. I can infer this because in the text it states "What a dreadful decree!What a cruel and unreasonable lord we have." This quote shows how he is angry at the young leader by calling him "cruel" and "Unreasonable".
