Lanier gives the readers of his book a few guidelines to go by when one is involved in the digital culture. One very important thing he warns us of is the new wave of one being anonymous in their ideas and what they say on the web. One day every anonymous person will lose their credibility and become a part of the “mash up”. They’ll be Just a part of endless information with no name behind the thoughts on screen. But, why would someone want to be anonymous in what they say? They don’t get credit for their thoughts. When one thinks about it does what someone says really matter if there is no source. I would say not. It’s of no importance and can’t be used for anything useful. For example, the Wiki sites, although many of us read them to get quick and easy information it’s still not credible. It can’t even be used as a source for a research paper in school. These sites are open for anyone to put what “they know” in print for others to use, but how do we know all of their information is correct. The individuality of a person and their intelligence is now masked by others who also write on the same site. The idea that Lanier brings up of in the future there only being one book will be detrimental to many authors who have and will write many spectacular works. Lanier exclaims, “One collective book will absolutely not be the same thing as the library of books by individuals it is bankrupting” (Lanier 47). All their hard work, dedication and research will all be for the use of
