You Should Be Here: Song Analysis

The album I will be reviewing today is by an Oakland girl who goes by the name of “Kehlani.” She’s been all over recently. With her mixtape titled “You Should Be Here” being nominated for a grammy, to her most recent studio album “SWEETSEXYSAVAGE” charting number 2 when it comes to the top r&b/hip hop albums on Billboard and 3 for Billboard 200. With this album only being out since January 27th, it’s doing very good. This album fits into two genres, pop and r&b. I personally view it more as r&b with hints of pop tracks in the said album. But, that’s not important, let’s get into the album review. The first track titled “Intro” being the length of one minute according to apple music speaks about a woman who is sorry and afraid about how others preserve her. She feels as if people have a certain impression of her and are expecting more from her which is something I think all women, including myself can experience. The speaker continues
This happened to be one of my favorite tracks from her collection of tracks released before that actual release of the album. This track is simply talking about Kehlani hiding a relationship with someone intimate. Such as lyrics stating, “If I gotta pull up on you, on the East Side. In the late night, in a disguise.” This is relating to her high profile relationship with Kyrie Irving if I’m not mistaken. The next track titled “CRZY” is the lead single off the album. This song played on the radio multiple times and was a favorite of many. She also has a music video for this track aswell which is an excited and overall “CRZY” music video. This song is trying to “create an unapologetic statement embracing the challenges and double standards that come with being a woman.” said by Kehlani herself. I personally think this is a great message to young women! Probably why the song is so popular amongst certain
