Young Adults and Drug Abuse; Why Use Knowing it Can Kill
Drugs are everywhere. In the media, at home, in school, with friends, and family. People cannot get away from drugs. People use and abuse not only street drugs but also prescription drugs and inhalants. Most drug users start young, and for different reasons. For many people it is easy to see why choosing drugs is bad, from either the side effects or the legal side, but for others, drugs are the only choice. Drugs may seem appealing to young adults because of the media. Entertainment world makes drugs appear very attractive. “In the movies they make it [drugs] look cool.” (Foundation for a Drug-Free World- The Truth About Drugs, 2006-2014)Young adults look up to celebrities and when the celebrities that they look up to start using drugs, the young adults think that it is cool. They want to be just like the people that they look up to. The “child stars” that have grown up have children that have grown up watching them. When the grown up “child star” starts using drugs, the now young adults still look up to the star and want to be like them.
Music is another kind of media that deals with drugs. Some musicians live their songs. They sing about drugs as well as do them. Country singers Toby Keith and Willy Nelson sing “Weed With Willie” The song makes light of smoking marijuana. The song talks about how much fun it is to smoke “weed” and everything that Toby Keith and Willy Nelson did under the influence of marijuana. There are many other celebrities that have abused drugs and musicians that have shown the world how drug use affect them. From just acting goofy in public from drug abuse to death, drugs are not as glamorous as they appear.
Many of the celebrities that people fallow abuse drug. Some of the more famous celebrities that are drug abusers are Snoop Dogg, Lil’ Wayne, Carlos
