Young Adults In Criminal Cases
Current Event Report

A chilling 9-1-1 call was made on the morning of September 8th by a terrified mum in Georgia when her two sons tried to kill her and her husband.

Yvonne Ervin and her husband, Zachary Ervin, had both been drugged with Xanax by their two sons, Cameron, who is 17, and Christopher, who is 22.

"That's why we were so sleepy. We didn't understand why we were so sleepy, but that's why," she said.

Yvonne had managed to make it to the phone thanks to Zachary. Zachary was able to escape from the two sons to their car, where he blew the horn, hoping to get his neighbour's attention, despite his groggy state. Unfortunately, this attracted to the two sons, so they came to the garage with a shotgun. Zachary Ervin had severe blunt force trauma

The two also plotted to burn the house down, and “introduced natural gas into the house,” Officer Long said.

Christopher and Cameron Ervin have been charged with ‘two counts of felony aggravated assault and two felony counts of first degree arson,’ according to Long. Since Georgia state law says that 17 year olds are considered adults in criminal cases, Cameron will be tried as an adult rather than just Christopher.
Both Christopher and Cameron are expected to appear in court sometime next week.

Opinion

I think the reason this story is so incredibly important is because of how horrible it is.

It’s true: what kind of sons try to kill their own parents? The story scares me, and it scared my mum and it scared my dad and it scared my brothers how absolutely horrid this story is, how two children could band against their parents, their biological parents, the parents that raised them up from a tiny, little, helpless human being to the things they are now do such a terrible thing?

This story is important to me because it shows the importance of trust, and how it disappeared from that home in small-town Georgia as soon as that gun was

I started by asking Mr. and Mrs. Smith what they remembered about the night. The mother hesitantly replied saying her son had told her that he heard weird footsteps before he was attacked. She then started to weep from the realization that the footsteps were from the attacker. As her husband tried to comfort his grieving wife, I asked him what was taken from the house. He thought for a moment and then replied, “Nothing, not a God damn thing.”…

It shows a sacrificial love that most people do not have today. I have a friend who is there for me no matter what happens. His name is Billy, he is older funny man who spends his time as an author of science fiction. He is my Randy. I know that Billy would do anything for me, I would just have to ask. Billy would support me, he would not force his opinions on me. Billy has always been there for me, even in my depression. I love that man so much, he is my best friend. Randy also reminds me of God. Randy could have told Goff no and been mean and unsupportive. Randy never did that, he allowed Goff to make his own decisions. Even though Randy probably knew that the Job hunt would be unsuccessful. This story reminds me of my friends and family who are always there for me no matter how hurt I…

Determining whether a juvenile is identified as a child or an adult is quite simple. If a juvenile is under the age of 18 then he or she is not an adult and if a juvenile has graduated from high school then he or she is identified as an adult. I believe that if a juvenile has not developed a certain level of intelligence or has not emotionally developed then they can’t be identified as an adult. In addition to that, although juveniles may have developed the sense of knowing right from wrong they may not know what’s right from wrong in the “adult world.” There have been laws passed to permitting juveniles to be transferred to adult court. The process with transferring juveniles to adult courts starts with the seriousness of the offense committed by the juvenile. If a juvenile has committed an offense such as armed robbery or murder then without a doubt there aren’t any excuses for…

As Stacia Tauscher once said “we worry about what a child will become tomorrow, yet we forget that he is someone today.” For my opinion is true, young offender population has increased of the years. The robbers where a couple of young brothers Alan Mender who was 17 and Joey Mender who was 14. Throughout the robbery Joey was super nervous and was somewhat aggressive to the hostages. But Alan on the other hand was calm and trying to keep Joey from doing anything more stupid then what they just did. Their plan was to be a quick in and out job. However when a lady driving by saw the two boy’s guns through the window she drove away and called the police. Now that Alan and Joey are stuck there they need to come up with a new plan, How to escape. During this process the robbers have to deal with Zach and his “big mouth” according to Joey. In my opinion Zach might have been the reason that no one got killed because without realizing it he was keeping the robbers attention on him. He was doing this by questioning everything they said, back talking, and reverse phycology. Alan didn’t mind it at all but Joey was getting very mad and wanted to shoot him. Then the police called to offer them a deal. The deal was if they let everyone go they…

In contemporary society, there is a debate over whether a separate justice system should exist for juveniles and adults. While some juveniles have demonstrated the need for a separate justice system for juveniles, others have proven otherwise. There are separate justice systems for juvenile and adult offenders because of the belief that the mind of juveniles can be reformed unlike adult offenders. However, the juvenile justice system is similar to the adult justice system in many ways. In terms of the rights of the offenders, both juvenile and adult offenders have the right to an attorney, the right to confront and cross-examine witnesses, the right to protection against self-incrimination, the right to notice of charges, and prosecution needs proof beyond a reasonable doubt…

Some juveniles think that because they are minors, they can’t be severely punished just like adults. Using this thinking, many minors commit crimes thinking of little to no consequences at all. With this thinking, the “double standard” comes into place. Female juveniles think because of their gender, they can really get away with crimes.…
