Young Goodman Brown Symbolism

The short story titled “Young Goodman Brown” takes place in Salem during the years of the infamous witch trials in which the population of Salem take it into their own hands to punish those who they deem are worshipping the devil. In this story there shows numerous examples of symbolism as well as excellent execution of double entendre which adds much more depth to the plot and story as a whole. At the beginning of the story Hawthorne introduces a very important character to the story whose presence symbolizes a deeper meaning than what it’s conveyed, this particular character is Young Goodman Brown’s wife named Faith.
