Why would I go to Arthor 77 and say “Your theory’s wrong. You’re wrong.” How could I do such a thing to my mentor and somewhat father?!
The first reason I can’t tell Arthor that his golden theory is wrong is because I’ll ruin him! I figured out the orbit of Onos. It went against Arthor 77’s Theory of the Universal Gravitation. I know as a scientist in Kalgash, it’s my responsibility to tell the truth and if a theory is incorrect, expose the wrong numbers or calculations it contains. But no man in his right mind would dare try, or even think of defying Arthor’s Gravity Theory. It’s so perfect, so precise, that it seems more like the Law of Universal Gravitation.
The second reason I can NOT break the news to Arthor
that his theory is false is, because if what I found is true, then Kalgash’s doomsday is here, and he was predicting a false theory, which everyone relied on, or may i say depended on!! I found that we are kind of too far away from Onos than we should be. I used the University's brand new, high tech and accurate, computer. I was messing around and wanted an excuse to play with it. So I faked studying Onos’ orbit. I searched inside the system and expected the ordinary result for Onos’ orbit, but what I got astonished me completely. The orbit was off. By a lot.
Lastly, the third reason why I can’t tell Arthor about what I found, and his theory being inaccurate, is because I will sound even more senseless than the Apostles of the flame trying to convince Kalgash to turn from their daily ways. I mean can’t you hear it? Beenay 25 accuses Arthor 77 of being wrong in his thinking by finding that his theory is wrong! Extra! Extra!
