Youth and Driving Don’t Always Mix Safely

The text is written by Dennis Thompson, he says that teens usually think that they are experienced drivers, but all the facts point in the different direction.
Young people between 15 and 24 years old represent 14% of the United States population but the male account for 30% of the vehicle injuries and 28% among the females.
About 4.500 teens between 16 to 19 years old died in 2008 died of injuries in crashes. The same year about 400.000 teenagers drivers and passengers were involved in a car injury, and had to go to the hospital.
It is also said by Anne McCartt, that “A new driver at any age is going to have a higher crash rate.” Just so happens to be that you are able to get the driving license at an age of 16-18 depending on state and country. And teens happen to be more immature and more risk taking.

“Parents are the ones in charge of making sure kids follow restrictions and graduated driving laws. The challenge is for parents to make clear that these restrictions aren’t about control, they’re about safety, and they come from a place of love.”
There are numerous researches showing that kids turn out as their parents when they get older. We devourer everything our parents do, how they live their lives and do certain stuff, for an example driving.
Kids learn how to drive way before they actually take their driving license, they learn from their parents. So if their parents are driving around speeding, texting/calling someone, they will of course think is okay as well. Of course you will be thought that “multitasking” is not good while driving. As driving requires a lot of attention, even if you don’t notice it. It only takes one second to crash, and that second you might be checking your phone. There is a sentence that is kinda known, at least I’ve heard it several times, especially when I was taking my driving license, “Always keep your eyes on the road.” Things happen so fast.
I agree somewhat to the quotation above as I got my driving license I can self reflect on the fact I’ve been driving 18 years with my parents, and myself only been driving for 6 months and seeing myself driving like my parents, especially like my father, and I got his temper in the traffic, but I guess that’s inherit more than thought.
But then again, I see the mistakes they make, and try to make it better. You learn best from mistakes they say, and seeing the mistakes they make and keep doing as a habit. I can learn as I’ve not evolved anything to a habit, as I am an inexperienced driver and they’ve been driving for 30+ years.
But of course the parents aren’t the sole reason for car crashes, I think the biggest factor is showing of your driving skills for your friends, girlfriend etc. and ending up in a crash. This especially goes for males, which are pushed more by their friends than females are, the males have to prove themselves as a good driver, experienced driver. And therefore they have to drive faster than legal.
So my conclusion is, everything is a distraction, and maybe a temptation, or a test to prove yourself to someone else. I say, don’t get tempted by this, the rules are set to be followed for your own safety and especially others safety. If your friends can’t understand that you think that safety is higher priority than show off, then you probably should explain them your side of it, and if they can’t understand it, you probably shouldn’t be driving with them.
