Youth: Empowered Stewards of Our Natio
Youth: Empowered Stewards of our Nation
A hero once said, “The youth is the hope of our nation.” When we look at this quotation, it simply means that our future solely depends on our younger generations in the upcoming years. The youth of today really plays a vital and influential part in our society. Their goal is to make this once great nation, great once again. We, Filipinos, must empower our youth to take action for the betterment of our country.
This country belongs to us, its future is our future. Its predicament today will be our damned nation tomorrow. Its sins and failures in the present will be our judgement in the years to come. No one can save this nation except our future generation. They have the energy to carry out this mission, they have the skills and the technology to sharp the course of our future. But the question is, how can they do this? Do they have enough direction to play the part? Can they live up to the ideals to save this nation as Dr. Jose Rizal had said?
Currently, our society is characterized by problems like corruption, hunger, poverty, environmental issues and many more. The only ones who can put an end to these difficulties are our youth. They need to be aware of the condition of our society. But the only thing stopping them is “fear”. To carry out their task, our youth must eliminate that fear within themselves and face reality. What they need is courage. Courage to voice out, courage to be persistent and courage to fight out the impurities of our society. The youth must know what to do for the sake of our nation, the knowledge of being good rather than being right. And because of this lack of courage, fear stands as a barricade of our youth to grow up and be the kind of persons that the society expects of them. Our youth has the power to lead, the kind of leaders who have a vision, who are believers, creative, innovative and those who have the sense of nationalism.
To achieve our dream of having a great nation, we, too, must hope and work for a better generation. Let’s not emulate to the mistakes of our elders but rather correct them for the sake of our children. Our youth of today must be able to influence and compel one another to change the course of his or her life. They must be able to drive one another to be the kind of persons who are pleasing to the eyes of God. The youth must act as the agents of construction, not of destruction. What better stewards of change than our youth, what better time to fight for change than now? Let us empower our future generations to stand up, look at the mirror, make a choice and live by it. You don’t have to make it big but rather make a big impact not only to ourselves but to other towards change.

Some of the charges brought against modern youth are that they represent a rudderless generation without any ideals to live by or cause to live for. They are afflicted with compulsive irreverence which manifests itself in increasing defiance of parental authority and revolt against established social norms. On the slightest pretext they take to streets, indulging in violence. They want to attract attention through unconventional behavior. They are becoming a generation of drug addicts and have developed an aversion to honest hard work, ever on the look out to have something for nothing.
