Cell phones are as common in the market today as a wrist watch on your arm. They are always at our side whether you’re young or elderly, ready to be answered, receive text messages, check email, or update our Facebook status. Cellphones have almost become a necessity in society and these devices are usually harmless until there has been a growing interest in trying to make the time spent on the roadway more productive and use a cellphone while driving. Unfortunately this leads to drivers being distracted on the road and therefore, the government should pass legislation to ban cell phone usage while driving nationwide to make the roads safer.

It is dangerous both through anecdotal and hard scientific fact. The distraction of texting, twitting and answering a call is the main cause of accident on the road. Excess use of the cellphone can cause accidents because the driver might run through a stoplight and into oncoming vehicles, knock down pedestrians and or cause fatality towards their self. According to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), “distracted driving is becoming the new DUI; it is becoming an epidemic.” This epidemic is causing the life of millions per year worldwide. If we all take that stand to safety and switch off phones while driving the life saved might be your owe., The main cause of distraction while driving is the use of texting on the cellphones; even though the call or text is essential and the lost of a client or business venture maybe the outcome. The best suggestion would be for the person to get off the main road and find a parking lot or emergency lot, and then check the message, but that will not be followed, so the safes way is to ban cellphones use. In calling for a ban on all use of electronic devices while driving, the NTSB cited a series of fatal accidents in which were deemed distractions. In 2004, a bus driver using his hands-free cellphone struck the underside of an arched stone bridge on the George Washington parkway in Alexandria, injuring 11 high school students on board. In 2010, a tractor-trailer with 53-foot-long trailer collided with a 15-passenger van in Kentucky, killing 11 people. The NTSB determined that the truck driver, was distracted by his cellphone. This incident is one of the main reason why the recommendation to ban texting and cellphone use behind the wheels mandatory, the investigation of a 2010 Missouri accident in which it said a 19-year-old pickup truck...
Many places nationwide are now seeing the dangers of the use of cell phones while driving is on the rise. Not only is it a danger to the person using the cell phone, but anyone around the user. It only takes a fraction of a second to lose control of a vehicle; and who knows what can happen in that fraction of a second. Will a life be lost? Will two or more lives be lost? We know what can happen to an extent, but let’s not find out what the full extent is. We need everyone, including the Government, around the nation to really see the pure danger and horrible outcomes of cell phone usage behind the wheel.
The first reason why we need to ban cell phone usage behind the wheel is because it is a huge distraction to the driver. The driver is not fully focused, alert, or at their full awareness when they are using their cell phone. Secondly, this so called distraction can or will lead to some sort of accident. Whether that accident is fatal or leaving the other person in critical condition. Thirdly, that last reason we should really ban this act is because the drivers are purely reckless. These drivers can be compared to drivers that are under the influence due to their lack of judgment and their ability to focus on the road. I’m sure that people are quality of looking at a text or answering their phone while driving, but my intention is to try to get everyone aware of the dangers of this action, and to hopefully get people to second think the decision to do so. There is a time and place for everything, but using your cell phone behind the wheel is not one of them.
Cell phone usage behind the wheel is very distracting to the driver. When people are on the phone talking or texting while driving, our attention is on our phone rather than the on road much where it needs to be. This distraction can cause bad reaction time to braking, the speed we must maintain, and the probability of missing a traffic signal.
