The first setting in 14th Deadly Sin is a California courthouse that is based in San Francisco. There is nothing particularly special about this courthouse; it is just a regular courthouse that just so happens to be located near a busy street in San Francisco. The event that occurs within this courthouse, however, is a very critical moment that helps to keep the plot moving forward. Yuki Castellano, a self-proclaimed professional attorney, is suing the San Francisco Police Department for wrongfully forcing a mentally handicapped teengager to admit to
comitting a crime that he was obviously incapable of doing. After the accused teenager was killed in jail while awaiting trial, a random witness spontaneously claims that a cop had ordered the murder of the helpless teen. When the witness was called up to the stand by the judge, he begins to panic: “”You gotta move me to another state, no lie. When I was coming into the building just now, I think I see the cop with a tattoo on his neck. He mighta seen me, too.” (Patterson and Paetro 279).
