Early years setting’s children would teach the children about Religious Studies which would teach the children about spirituality and morality. By raising awareness of different religions and faiths it would give the children a better understanding of who they are, this would give the children a sense of security and confidence. Its important for a child to understand who they are as it would give them the opportunity to make decisions for themselves in their own life - these decisions would include what they want to wear, what they look for in a friend etc... Not only would teaching Religious Studies get the child to understand who they are and give them a sense of security and confidence it would also reduce stereotypes and labeling and to challenge discrimination when they are aware of it as they would be taught about different cultures and religion. This would also get the children to understand their feelings and would help them to recognize how others are feeling and also their achievements.…
Teachers should not teach their students about religion, politics, and ethics because it could corrupt students’ minds. If a student with a different religion and background was taught a whole new religion, he or she may have a change in personality and start having beliefs in that taught religion. This could cause conflicts between the student and his or her parents who are very strict towards their religion. In the story of Inherit the Wind, the whole town of Hillsboro is full of corrupted minds because everyone in that town believes in the same stuff. They believe that the bible is always right, “I believe it is not boastful to say that I have studied the bible as much as any layman. And I have tried to live according to its precepts.”-Brady-page 176-Plays on a Human Theme. Not everyone is religious and it can cause others to be offended.…
Since taking the Bible and prayer out of Schools, there have been five negative developments in the nation’s public schools: Academic achievement has plummeted, including SAT scores, increased rate of out-of-wedlock births, an increase in illegal drug use, increase in juvenile crime and deterioration of school behavior. Without someone teaching our youth in schools about God, the Bible and Jesus, where are the youth of America going to learn?…
I believe that the book Zeitoun can be somewhat factual yet there are many parts in the book that can be misleading. The description Zeitoun gives us about FEMA and Homeland Security gives us the feeling of sorrow that they, and other U.S. citizens, discriminate the Muslim people after 4 years past when the horrific events of 9/11 happened.…
In Dave Egger’s New York Times best seller, Zeitoun, he writes about a Muslim man named Abdulrahman Zeitoun who stays behind during Hurricane Katrina and canoes around to help people that are trapped in their house and helps them get to safety and he feeds helpless dogs that are starving. Zeitoun is portrayed as a heroic family figure in the book. He is a kind man and acted selflessly whenever he had to do things. For example, he gave the limited food that he had to save the starving dogs and each day he went back. However in 2012, the world was shocked to find that Abdulrahman Zeitoun was convicted of domestic violence and other hateful crimes. There is now a big controversy at Mills High School, and teachers are debating whether or not students…
The world religion class was quite a learning experience. Learning about all of the different religions was truly fascinating. Reading about how everyone worship, who they worship and what rituals are practiced was very influential. It is easy to see how important religion is to people all over the world. Everyone it seems believes in something other than themselves. People everywhere feel as though they are connected to a higher authority.…

I love that you guys are talking about 9/11 in your classroom. That is something that I thought we would discuss in my classroom, however, we did not. I think that 9/11 is important to share with the children of today. It makes it a more meaningful concept because many of us where alive during this time. It is wonderful that you and your CT are able to engage kindergarten students with such a serious and tragic topic. Adults don't give children enough credit when it comes to understanding and learning about topics of this nature. Although, there are parts of this historic event that are not suitable for kindergarten children, lesson on 9/11 shouldn't be avoided. There are ways to tailor it to young children to make it appropriate, which…
Children need to understand that not everyone is the same and can have different cultures, beliefs and backgrounds.…
Religion, whether we realize it or not, is a major element of American society (and also worldwide history). For many, religion is a significant part of their cultural identity. Religion plays a part in all levels of politics and is often an aspect of community events and organizations. Everyday, we all interact with people who have different religious backgrounds and personal beliefs. Children born into religious families are very connected with their religions from birth and this affects the way they will see the world for the rest of their lives. Even those who later explore other faiths or convert to other religious ideas will be affected in subtle ways by their family religion. We are a product of our upbringing, no matter how our later life experiences or how the state may change us. Besides on a personal level, there is a consistent debate on whether religion should be present in the public school systems, or if it is against the state. A philosophical quote by Pope Benedict XVI (born Joseph Aloisius Ratzinger) in an interview on religion versus the state includes, “A just laicism allows religious freedom. The state does not impose religion but rather gives space to religions with a responsibility toward civil society, and therefore it allows these religions to be factors in building up society” (Ratzing). Though this may seem like an inspiring idea, there are still debates on the subject.…
This is mostly due to the fact that a child of a certain age, or at least the average child, is unaware of the particulars of any one religious affiliation; and also because the scolding from the parent for not doing so usually isn’t worth the trouble of resisting. Now, as the same child ages into his late teens and early twenties, he will at some point begin to question his faith, even if only for a brief period. Although some might say the reason for this is partially due to a teen’s natural tendency to rebel. However, the flip side of that statistic is that the young adults who aren’t acting on rebellious inclinations are keenly observing their educational environment. It has been said that a person is not of any particular faith until he can…
“Zerro is a good opportunity to share the Gospel with your friends in an informal atmosphere. The fact that this project took place in the country has a great impact. Mostly close friends come to the country, so the members were already set up to be open and have close communication. I think that the project had a very healthy and alive dynamics. I think, during Zerro the most important themes, which students worry about, are discussed and that changes their idea of life. The most impressive are the life stories of people. That will always be actual. The most important thing for me is the result after the project. Three guys believed and one of them, Sergey, is an active member in the theatrical ministry in the church. Youth was very impressed…
