In Anansi Boys by Neil Gaiman and Mythology by Edith Hamilton, there are many ways in which characters from both books are similar and different. One of the closest connections I saw was between Spider from Anansi Boys and Loki from Mythology. Their connection is very close because Spider and Loki did something abominable and they both paid for their actions through torture in two similar ways. It seems that Neil Gaiman modeled Spider after Loki because of their similar stories.…

There is a direct correlation between the mythical Thor and the comic-book character the Mighty Thor. From both the physical aspects and the characteristics of their personalities, Norse legends have heavily influenced the modern day life and comic-book superheroes. The Mighty Thor is visualized as a tall robust man, with strawberry blonde locks, and blue eyes. He also speaks in a very distinct old English accent, the mythical Thor is described “…as a man in his prime, tall and well formed, with muscular limbs and bristling red hair and bear. Both characters also share the same love of being involved in battle, and depend on their mighty hammer.…

No matter what, we are almost always talking about violence masculinity in America. Whether we are talking about the horrifying, high-profile mass shooting we have seen over recent decades, the far greater rates of murder and gun violence we see on a day – to – day basis that barely register in the national news, or the epidemic of sexual violence and domestic violence, the vast majority of this violence is committed by men, young men, and boys (Jackson Katz, 2013). Throughout this essay the topics covered will be how culture defines masculinity, according to the film, violent masculinity as a cultural norm, agents of socialization that teach boys how to be men, the cool pose and the pressure to conform, the ‘ratcheting up’ of what it takes to be a real man, and effects on males’ understanding of their masculinity, as well as the short and long-term effects on the lives of men and women, and on society.…
