ABSRACT: Main aim behind this project is to monitor and control the PLC based system using wireless technology.
In this project I am going to use a ZIGBEE and SCADA technology to get wireless automation system. Pair of
ZIGBEE is used here, among that one is connected with the PLC in the industry side and another one is connected with
PC in the control room. Data from the PLC side will be transferred continuously to PC via ZIGBEE by sending a bit of the process that occurs in the industry and it will be displayed in the SCADA software and also we can control industry by transmitting a bit again using ZIGBEE from PC side to PLC located at the industry side. Thus we can avoid the maintenance and cost of the long cables that are used to connect the PLC with a PC.
Keywords: Wireless, PLC, ZIGBEE, SCADA, Automation System
I. INTRODUCTION
In today’s world many of the industries are getting automated using PLC and thus it has become a main part of the industries. Continues monitoring and controlling of industries are required due to the large amount of production. PLC is a device which is connected with equipment in the industry and it will transfers the data to PC via long cables and a person seating in the control room on PC can monitor and control the industry. Cost and maintenance of the

There are 3 types of PLC, unitary, modular and rack-mounted. A unitary PLC is a stand alone unity, it has no room for expansion and works on its own. They are useful for automating activities such as stress testing. For example the stress testing of a hoist, instead of paying someone to manually control the hoists up and down movement leaving time in between each motion a PLC could be used instead. It could be set up to perform a number of cycles of movement of the hoist by the use of limit switches at the top and bottom of its movement to detect when to change direction. The time to wait between movements can be set so that the motor doesn't get strained. Other safety features could be added, for example, a set of sensors could be installed around the hoist to stop it's movement if some one comes too close to it. It would also be easier to set the parameters of the test and change them easily for testing a different hoist or piece of equipment. It would have to keep its functionality to a small scale as it can't be upgraded at all. A large variety of inputs and outputs could be used as most PLCs support analogue and digital. This would mean you could have temperature sensors in use on the analogue and through-beam sensors on digital. It is likely that this type of PLC would be mounted somewhere near the object it is controlling, most likely to a nearby wall.…

ZigBee is a standard defined by the IEEE ( Institure of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) back in 1998. When a group of big guy say WiFi and Bluetooth might not be suitable enough for some applications, they started to define new protocol, new standard. ZigBee aim to have lower data rate compared to Bluetooth, at 250Kbps (Bluetooth is 1Mbps back then, now is higher with EDR-Enhanced Data Rate). More importantly, ZigBee aims for lower power applications which should offer years (2 to 3 years) of operation on non-rechargeable battery and it can connect to more nodes (2 ^ 16 = 16-bit address > 65,000); while Bluetooth only offers 8 devices connection in piconet. ZigBee designed for control and monitor while Bluetooth for cable replacement. ZigBee uses RF (Radio Frequency) to communicate. There are 3 frequencies available, 2.4GHz – which we are using in Malaysia (this is actually world wide frequency and it is sharing with Bluetooth and WiFi), 915MHz – For America, forbiden in Malaysia and the last frequency is 868MHz – For Europe, again forbiden in Malaysia too. So what the hack for me to know all these technical stuff? OK, you can forget about it, let’s talk about XBee.…

Using MODBUS for Process Control and Automation MODBUS is the most popular industrial protocol being used today, for good reasons. It is simple, inexpensive, universal and easy to use. Even though MODBUS has been around since the past century—nearly 30 years— almost all major industrial instrumentation and automation equipment vendors continue to support it in new products. Although new analyzers, flowmeters and PLCs may have a wireless, Ethernet or fieldbus interface, MODBUS is still the protocol that most vendors choose to implement in new and old devices. Figure 1.…

As we have seen many types of remote controls like Infra-red controlled, RF controlled, DTMF controlled etc. The present model is also intended to control devices using GSM technology i.e. just by sending code (containing numerical numbers) to the appliance/devices status. So the present project model can be used in the substations, homes, industries etc. In substations feeders are located which carry the power close to the…

Compared to Bluetooth, ZigBee provides higher network flexibility and a larger number of nodes, and a better transmission range with low power consumption. Recently, ZigBee-based wireless networks were tested in various applications. In [8], the authors investigate the use of ZigBee and mobile phones in monitoring elderly patients with diabetes mellitus or heart diseases. A ZigBee WiMAX nursery system for patient monitoring was proposed in [9]. An interesting application of ZigBee-based wireless sensor nodes in the real-time monitoring of fruit logistics is discussed in [10]. The work presented here simply attempts to probe into the applicability, usefulness, and practicality of using wireless-ZigBee based network in monitoring the signs of patients on a hospital floor and surrounding area without confining them to a bed. The presented solution is meant to be both simple, cost effective and hopefully causes minimal interference with the patient’s mobility and comfort. A wearable sensor unit, attached to the patient’s body, reads and transmits the patient’s fetal…
