As the name implies, Zilog is a set of library files that provides an interface between the user application and this project uses Zilog XP F0822, a part of microcontroller product. The kit used allows the users to be familiarized with the function of this device.
The kit consists of 8Kb version of Z8 encore. This hardware is intended for blind person. It is expected to be reasonably used by the blind people with no support.
For their safety, this device it completed with the ultrasonic sensor that work perfectly for distance measurement between the blind person and any moving or stationary object.
The ultrasonic sensor provides: * Precise, non-contact distance measurements within a 2 cm to 3 m range * Simple pulse in/pulse out communication * Burst indicator LED shows measurement in progress * 20 mA power consumption * Narrow acceptance angle * 3-pin header makes it easy to connect using a servo extension cable
The main features of Z8 Encore! XP F0822 Series include: * eZ8TM core CPU * 8 KB Flash memory with in-circuit system programming (ISCP) capability * 1 KB register RAM * 5-channel, 10-bit Analog-to-Digital Converter (ADC) * Full-duplex UART * I2C interface (Master Mode only) * Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) * Infrared Data Association (IrDA)-compliant infrared encoder/decoder (Endec) * Two 16-bit timers with capture, compare, and PWM capability * Watchdog Timer (WDT) with internal RC oscillator * Eleven or nineteen I/O pins * Programmable priority interrupts * On-Chip Debugger * Voltage Brownout Protection (VBO) * Power-On Reset (POR) * 2.7 V to 3.6 V operating voltage with 5 V-tolerant inputs * Operating temperatures: 20 °C ±10 °C
This device was programmed with certain instructions so it properly works as determined. As mentioned, this project is aimed to serve as a sensory substitution specially for a blind person. While using this cap, a blind person can perceive information by simply listening to the sound whenever he or she is about to hit a wall or any barrier while walking or moving around. Fortunately, this Zilog prototype is connected with the ultrasonic sensor that necessarily helps the blind person to solve their problem without human aid. Since this disability keeps a person to not retrieve data or information from the retina, this ultrasonic device transfers information from touch receptors to the hearing cortex for perception and interpretation (moving away). So, it is possible that the blind person can navigate and easily identify the obstacles. All they have to do is to follow only the ultrasonic instruction.
This is very helpful, since it is controlled by the barrier next to the user. The advantage of this ultrasonic sensor is to detect any object that serves as barrier to the blind person. Aside from this, the researchers also found the idea that this device can be useful for the miners. Since the miners always deal with the underground barrier. The limit is it can’t get wet. So definitely by using this device, one of many problems for humanity is solved.

Have you ever wonder if there is some type of device that can help heal the blind? Brian Mech, who is vice president of Second Sight Medical Products, had created the Argus II. This device was created for those who suffer from a genetic disease called Retinitis Pigmentosa or RP. The disease causes someone to lose vison because the retina isn’t functioning properly. The Argus II can actually send a signal to the implanted chip in the back of the eye’s retina and translates the directives into sight. The humanitarian device is able to change lives for those who struggle from the RP disease.…

Social attitudes and beliefs impact on individuals with sensory loss as some people treat the individual as if they were incapable to understand. Society is recognising the need of deaf people by putting loop systems in to public buildings such as banks, the cinema and conference facilities. This helps people with hearing aids. Subtitles or signer are available on many TV programs but these are on late at night. Finding work when you have sensory loss can be hard, even thou under the Equality act and disability discrimination act means the employer cannot discriminate against sensory loss it is difficult to convince them they are able to do the job as efficiently as anyone else. These attitudes can knock confidence and may result in the individual not trying and become withdrawn.…

Has anyone ever wondered how it feels to be blind? Imagine being blind, standing outside on a nice day without sight. No sight of the beautiful sky, nor the sun itself, only the feelings and sound. The hot sun, the gentle breeze, the grass and plants flowing in said breeze, all with only audio and touch. This is what it is like to be blind. To read, blind people used to have embossed books with embossed lettering. Embossed books and lettering are no longer used today, thanks to the work of Louis Braille, a blind French teacher at the National Institute for Blind Youth.…

A visual impairment is when a person’s sense of sight is completely gone and the change is irreversible. However this can also mean someone is partially sighted, where their sight may be blurred or only able to see out of one eye. A visual impairment can be caused by age illness or incident; it prevents the patient being able to recognise people by face, body and other visual elements. To overcome tis barrier glasses may be worn in some partial sighted cases, and a form of written communication called braille may be used. Braille is created by making indentations in materials patterned to represent letters without actually outlining the shape of the letter.…

GONZALES — Violating Gonzales High School's dress code is not a crime, but some of the offenders are about to start looking a lot like convicts. Soon after classes begin Aug. 25, violators of the district's beefed-up dress code must don navy blue coveralls unless they get another set of clothes from home — or serve in-school suspension. The outfits aren't just styled like prison jumpsuits — they're actually made by Texas inmates. "We're a conservative community, and we're just trying to make our students more reflective of that," said Larry Wehde, Gonzales Independent School District deputy superintendent. The new policy in Gonzales, about 70 miles east of San Antonio, has drawn plenty of criticism — along with some speculation that all the district will accomplish is to set off a new fashion trend. Some parents and students are crying foul. "They're not little prisoners," said Mary Helen Douglas, who has a 17-year-old son starting his senior year. The 2,650-student district has ordered 82 coveralls, which are most often sold to county jails, state mental institutions and juvenile prisons. School districts have bought lunch trays and similar items from inmate labor, but no other school district has ordered the jumpsuits in the last year, said Michelle Lyons, spokeswoman for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. The jumpsuits aren't the only option for dress-code violators from fifth through 12th grade. School board President Glenn Menking said parents can still bring a change of…
