His techniques showed the world how to treat prisoners without using traditional techniques of torture and inhumane punishments. His techniques for negotiations did not involve physical or mental abuse and instead takes a more friendly approach. His tactics started by getting the prisoner off guard by a friendly approach and starting a conversation with the prisoner. In the article Eliciting Intelligence Using the Scharff-Technique:Closing in on the Confirmation/Disconfirmation-Tactic by Lennart May and some other scientist they discovered and explain Scharffs techniques that were used in World War Two, his first tactic was to become as friendly and start up a conversation which he was already a good talker and person which he stayed in contact with some of the prisoners through the rest of his life. The next tactic was not pressing information by this the Article states that he rarely asked any few or no questions at all. Both Tactics formed the basic foundation of the Scharff-Technique.
