Zinc History
ZINC Zinc is one of the natural elements on the periodic table. It was discovered in Germany in 1746, by Andreas Marggraf. The name is from the German, ‘zinc’, which may be derived from Persian, which means ‘sing’. The element was known to the Romans but they rarely used it. When it was first used it was recognized. Zinc has a specification of metal made from ore or another material a process of distillation by electrolysis. The atomic number for zinc is 30. The mass number is 65.39 mass units. The number of isotopes it has is 64. The period number is 4 and the family name it is in is the transition metal. The other family members are Cadmium and Mercury. Zinc is a metal that is a solid at room temperature. Zincs melting point temperature

    1. Melting point is the range it begins when the compound first starts to turn to liquid, and it should only be within a few degrees. However if the temperature is raised too fast, the initial reading will be missed and it would not be very accurate, therefore it is necessary to raise the temperature very slowly for accuracy.…

This essay, is going to analyse the documentary film, Blackfish, by Gabriela Cowperthwaite in 2013, in order to raise awareness for the captivity of Killer whales in general, and in the Sea-world industry. Their documentary is based on a dreary story of the killer whale Tilikum, and through the cases that result in the life of these whales, this film reminds us on how limited knowledge we have on these animals, and how personal relationship takes place according to its purpose.…

The melting point of a compound is the temperature at which the solid is in equilibrium with its liquid. A solid compounds changes to a liquid when the molecules acquire enough energy to overcome the forces holding them together. A mixture melting point is useful in confirming and used to indentify an unknown compound, which we will be doing in this particular experiment.…

Nickel is one of the most important elements on the periodic table. It has plenty of history, as well as a huge importance to society. Its has unique chemical, physical, and geological properties. Nickel is used commercially in abundance, as it is used anywhere from simple art products such as ceramics to complex structures such as tubing for desalination plants. It is even used in the American five-cent coin, the "nickel".

Nickel was discovered by Axel Fredrik Cronstedt, in Sweden, during the year 1751. Mr. Cronstedt discovered nickel in a mineral called niccolite. He originally planned to extract copper from this new mineral but got none at all. This is why nickel, at first, was called "false copper". Instead, Cronstedt got a silvery-white metal, which was eventually used for other things. The origin of the name "nickel" is a derivative from the German word "kupfernickel", meaning "Devil's Copper" or "St. Nicholas's Copper".

The chemical properties of nickel are as follows: Nickel has the atomic number of twenty-eight. The atomic symbol of nickel, "Ni". It has the atomic weight (mass) of 58.70, to be exact, 58.693. It occurs in five stable isotopes. Physically, nickel is a lustrous silvery-white and takes on a hard polish. It is a hard metal, malleable, ductile, and slightly ferromagnetic. Its melting point is at 2651 degrees F, and its boiling point is at 5275 degrees F. Also, nickel is a fairly good conductor of heat and electricity. Nickel belongs in the iron-cobalt group of metals and is chiefly valuable for the metallic alloys it forms. Biologically, nickel is a trace element for many species, including the human species. A human body contains 0.0000454 grams of nickel for every one pound.

Nickel is not found in too many places around the world. It is found mainly, and obtained commercially from pentlandite and pyrrhotite, in the Dudbury region of Ontario, Canada. The Dudbury region of Ontario produces roughly thirty percent of all the…

While taking my Zinc supplement, I have always wondered that when was Zinc discovered and where did it come from. After a couple of researches, I find out that Zinc was discovered in Germany in 1746 by Andreas Marggraf. Zinc is found in earth’s crust. The average natural level of zinc in the earth’s crust is 70 mg/kg (dry weight), ranging between 10 and 300 mg/kg.1 Zinc can also be founded in Zinc ores deposits. Zinc ores was discovered as early as 1400 to 1000 B.C. in Palestine. Zinc ores contain 5-15% of Zinc. 2 By froth flotation, Zinc gets separated from the Zinc ores. Froth flotation of Zinc ores are performed inside a vat with an impeller. Inside the vat, the zinc ores are grinded to a fine powder. The next process is mixing the zinc ores powder with water, pine oil and flotation chemicals. By mixing the mixture, it helps the zinc to float on the surface.…

Zinc sulphate (ZnSO4.7H 2O), an inorganic material has been crystallized by an isothermal evaporation method. ZnSO 4.7H2O is highly soluble in water and the solubility is found to be increased almost linearly with the increase of temperature. At room temperature around 34C, the solubility was found to be 92.41 gm/50 ml. The FT-IR spectroscopy was performed on pure zinc sulphate crystals to identify the presence of functional groups. The grown crystals have been subjected to powder X-ray diffraction to determine the unit cell dimensions and the crystal structure. The lattice parameters are found to be, a = 9.9810 Å, b = 7.2500 Å and c = 24.2800 Å, respectively. The values were in good agreement with those of the reported values. The TGA and DTA study revealed that the grown crystals have good thermal stability. The UV-vis spectrum showed that the material has wide optical transparency in the Ultra-violet region.…

Analysis of its symmetry and crystal structure using ATOMS will be used to deduce its possible polytypic stacking sequences as well as the orientation relationship between these two structures. Sphalerite is a face centered cubic structure with each sulphur bonded with four zinc atoms is observed. The four interior sulphur atoms are located at 0.25, 0.25, 0.25 away from the nearest unit cell corners. There are 4 formula units of ZnS per unit cell.…
