Some argue that zoos are fundamental to the education of their children. Additionally, some believe zoos allow children to bond with the animals. However, since animals are trapped in smaller environments, they act differently than they do in the wild. Therefore, there is no real educational value in observing these trapped animals. Animals in confinement do not hunt, play, or act as they do in their natural habitat, hence children are learning false behaviors of animals. Zoo advocates also espouse the belief that zoos are instrumental in protecting endangered species. Nevertheless, only seventeen percent of the species in zoos are endangered (“Zoo Statistics”). Many of the endangered species in zoos are stolen from the wilderness and the chances of being released back are nearly impossible because zoos need them for money (Russo). Furthermore, zoos do not release endangered animals because their ability to survive in the wild has greatly diminished as a result of time spent in captivity (Russo). The best way to preserve animals in danger of extinction is to protect them in their natural habitats, not imprison them in…

Seeing exotic animals behind cages or glass walls at the zoo, watching Shamu do flips for a fish at SeaWorld, and laughing as elephants perform tricks at the circus are all entertaining, but is our entertainment worth the suffering these animals endure behind the scenes? The answer is no. The billions of animals that are subjected to abuse outweigh any claimed benefits that can be made of these businesses. The debate of zoos and parks being ethical or unethical has two main arguments, these being the animal abuse involved and the supposed benefits.…

The position that human interests form the center of this universe- our desires, needs, goals, preferences, and our love for one another-as opposed to animals or even God has long been held as true. Moral philosophers however have recently challenged this anthropocentric view. Presently, there is increasing debate over how we treat the natural world and those we share it with. In Tom Regan's essay, "Are Zoos Morally Defensible" Tom explains two arguments against anthropocentrism, utilitarianism and the rights view, to answer the question of the defensibility of zoos.…

Good morning, teachers and fellow students. Imagine if you were beaten for no reason, forces to do something you don’t want to, and left to die. This is how many animals are treated every day. Nobody should do this to other animals, and it must be stopped. People should be kind to animals because they’re sensitive, just like humans. If an animal is abused, it will try to defend itself which can result injuries for both humans and animal. All animals should be treated equally, animal abusers should respect animals instead of abuse them.…

We all have an idea of what animal cruelty is but how much are you truly aware of this harmful abuse? Everyday animals are being beaten, neglected, and forced to struggle for survival. They are sometimes left in unsanitary conditions with no food or water, they have little hope as they live their days without the compassion they deserve. Some are found and rescued given the chance to experience how great life and humans can be; others aren't so lucky. Animal abuse affects us in many ways: it’s bad for our animals; it affects not only the animal but those who witness it. These animal abusers are criminals. To grow as a nation we must fight for these abused animals’ rights. It is up to us to speak for the animals that lack a voice, who will, if we won’t?…

To test cosmetics, cleaners and other products, hundreds of thousands of animals are poisoned, blinded and killed every year. In circuses, animals are being tortured cruelly. This has been an argumentative issue for a long time. Some argue testing on some animals now will prevent lots of human suffering and save lives in the future. Others say it is unethical and cruel. Still, everyone agrees that millions of animals are subjected to unbearable pain in labs. Also most of people agree with animals tortured cruelly in circuses, they take it as an entertainment for themselves. And that thousands of them die. Before 1986, only four states had felony animal cruelty laws.…

In today's society, the number of cases regarding animal cruelty is skyrocketing to the point that I wonder if there is no way to truly protect animals' rights. I believe that animals have not legal rights, but ethical rights, and that they deserve to be guaranteed such rights. These rights are being breached when people exploit them for money. I want to be a person that strives for the implementation of animals' rights and welfare by minimizing such unethical behavior.…

Animal cruelty is the crime of inflicting physical pain, suffering or death on an animal. Society has become a dreadful place for animals where humans can no longer be trusted because of their incongruous behaviour. The animals of the world exist for their own reasons; they were not made for humans to abuse and experiment, however, society has become decayed and inhumane. In the poem ‘Foxes among the lamb’ Ernest G.Moll demonstrates how the farmer poisons the foxes and leaves them to suffer and eventually die. When individuals glance at an animal they judge them as aggressive creatures. The visual poster portrays how animals are innocent and vulnerable creatures to society. ‘The Panther’ by Rainer Maria Rilke displays how animals should not be locked up in cages.…

When animals get abused, people usually don’t care. Imagine if that animal was a family member or your best friend. These abused animals need to be fought for because they have as much of a right to live happy. Animals don’t deserve to be tortured or harmed in any kind of way; they are poor and defenseless creatures. Many people who become animal owners do so because they love animals and want to give them a good home.…
