Zory The Greek Goddess Of The Sun
Eos is the Greek goddess of the dawn, and is known for bringing forth hope of a new day and for her many love affairs. She awakened in the morning and opened the gates of heaven with her rosy fingers, and her brother Helios, or god of the sun, rode across the sky in his chariot to enlighten it. Eos was also notorious for the vast amount of lovers she had, after Aphrodite cursed her to have a desire for men that could never be fulfilled. The goddess of the dawn is not only seen in Greek mythology, but also in many other ancient traditions. There are several cultural equivalents of Eos in Slavic culture known as Zorya, German traditions known as Eostre, and in Indian traditions known as Ushas. If the hound eats Ursa Minor, it is said that the universe will end. Zorya are also recognized as the Auoras, and represent the Morning Star, Evening Star, and Midnight Star. In some myths, morning Zorya is the wife of Myestats, the moon god, and is a major goddess. In other myths, the Zoryas are virgins who border the sun. The Zorya represent exorcisms, marriage, and …show more content…
She is known and associated by flowers and spring. In German, Eostre is also known as Easter. Eostre was first recognized by Anglo-Saxons, who called April Esturmonath, or Easter month. Eostre’s sacred items were rabbits and eggs, which represent renewal and rebirth. Eos and Eostre have quite a few differences: Eos is simply known as the goddess of dawn, while Eostre is the goddess of spring and fertility. Eostre is also associated with Easter, but Eos has nothing to do with Easter. The origins of Eos and Eostre differ immensely from each other, and are almost unrelated. Within a matter of weeks it will be Easter time. Eggs will not only be hidden for little children to find but an egg is a symbol of life. Eggs are often the prime example used in a Christian Sunday school to visually explain the Resurrection of Jesus. The eggs shell represents the stone that separated his tomb from the outdoors. When the hard shell barrier cracks, or in this case when the stone is rolled away, life comes into the world. In the Etruscan tomb of the Lioness lays a Banquet scene fresco that illustrates a man holding up an egg. Like Christians, the Etruscans saw the egg as a rebirth symbol, a life after death. In the words of Lucy Bert, if you want to study the living, you have to know a little bit about the dead.…

As with almost all "Christian" holidays, Easter has a secular side as well. The dichotomous nature of Easter and its symbols, however, is not necessarily a modern fabrication. Easter has always had its non-religious side. In fact, Easter was originally a pagan festival. It was co-opted by Christian missionaries starting in the second century CE. Easter must be celebrated on a Sunday between the dates of March 22 and April 25.…

Zeus was the king of all the Olympians, as well as the god of thunder, weather, and omens. Hera was Zeus's wife, and she was considered the ideal woman. She was also the goddess of marriage and family. Ares was Hera and Zeus's son. He was the god of war, and he was widely disliked by the other gods because of his quick tempered-aggression and the way he needed to have conflict. Her mother, Hera, wanted her to marry Hephaistos, the god of fire and crafts, but Aphrodite had other plans for herself. I have learned how to observe, far better than most people observe. I am not blinded by the past or motivated by the future. I focus on the present, because that's where I am destined to live."(pg.7)…
