Princess Alexandra Mary was born on April 21, 1926 in London, England. She was the first child of Prince Albert and former Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon. She only had a sister whose name was Margret Rose. She has been Queen for 56 years. She is the constitutional monarch of the United Kingdom also Queen of Ireland and head of the Common wealth. The Queen and her younger sister moved to the Windsor castle where they were given private lesson (Biography of Queen Elizabeth II, bbc.co.uk, 19th February 2010). In 1945 she joined the Auxiliary Territorial service were she learned to drive and repair heavy vehicles (Biography of Queen Elizabeth II, royalty.nu, 19th February 2010). She got married to her distant cousin, Philip Mountbatten in November 1957.The couple has four children; Charles, Anne, Andrew and Edward (Biography of Queen Elizabeth II, biography.com, 19th February 2010).
Queen Elizabeth II was 25 years old, when she was announced as Queen on 6th February 1952 following the death of her father. She was commissioned on 2nd June 1953 (Biography of Queen Elizabeth II, bbc.co.uk, 19th February 2010). There was no possibility of her becoming Queen when she was born. It was not until her uncle gave up the throne to get married to a woman who had been divorced twice (Biography of Queen Elizabeth II,news.bbc.co.uk/cbbcnews/,19th of February 2010). This was when her father decided to take over the throne and since she was the first child of her parents who did not have any male child that made her the heir of the throne when her father died.
