A Bran Nue Dae Film Review
The Bran Nue Dae Review
The film “A Bran Nue Dae” was a very intriguing film and was definitely unique. This particular movie tells the story of an adolescent Aboriginal boy and his journey to return back home to Broome. Along the way he meets characters that challenge him, which helps him mature but also embrace his Aboriginal heritage. Throughout the movie there are many unexpected occurrences that make it thoroughly enjoyable and a great family movie.
There were many aspects within the movie in which I liked immensely and made the film so captivating. Some of the features were the unexpected plot twists throughout the entire movie, the uniqueness of the movie as there is no other movie that could compare to it and the significance of the scenes with the Aboriginals standing up for their rights and opinions. One particular aspect within “Bran Nue Dae” was the interpretation of the Aboriginal characters and as the movie progressed the stereotypical views of them started to disappear.
Throughout the movie there were some negative things that were present within it. Some of these were how the songs would just randomly begin and could make a certain scene loose its significance and meaning, the plot itself seemed to be a bit predictable and disappointing until a plot-twist occurred. The ending of the movie I found confusing and a cliché. Although there were a few negative aspects present in the movie I still believe it was a successful movie and quite enjoyable.
“A Bran Nue Dae” had many key characters that made it more enticing and without them it would have been missing a great deal of charisma. Each character brought a new set of personality to the film and made every bit more entertaining. The leading protagonist was Willie and I did like him but that was the director’s intension, except I found that his approach to situations quite irritating. The main antagonist of this movie was Father Benedictus and as expected his actions throughout the movie were seen as wrong. Throughout Willie’s journey more key characters appear such as Uncle Tadpole, Wolfgang and also Annie. Within the movie there is a love interest between Rosie and Willie and it does become complicated. In my opinion I believe that the actors and actresses all portray their characters wonderfully and are easy to relate to. The characters within “Bran Nue Dae” were a major part in what made the movie so successful and engaging.
I believe that “Bran Nue Dae” is a good movie and shows the importance of culture within society today. I would recommend this movie to any families or anyone that would like to learn about some Australian culture. It is a very entertaining movie and I can guarantee it will make you laugh. It may not have the best story line but it is still an all-round good movie.
I give “Bran Nue Dae” a rating of 3 out of 5 stars.

From just a structure and story standpoint, I loved the unpredictability of the movie. It’s rare that I find I have no idea where a movie is going, but that was the case here. I was surprised on more than one occasion by where “Three Billboards” goes, and that only made the film that much more…

All in all, I have no criticism for the film. In fact, I believe this film is such that it could be expanded upon to create a full-length feature or at least a more substantial film. But of coure, that requires time and resources that the filmmakers may not have at their disposal. Both the joy and agony of indie films. Phenomenal stories without the restrictions of the studios but also without the funding of the studios.…

Bran Nue Dae is a musical written in 1990 by Jimmy Chi. It follows the lives of a few young aboriginal people. The musical is based in 1969, and involves many of the issues surrounding that era. Some things discussed in the play are aboriginal dispossession and the stolen generation, references to colonialism, and self identity. Obviously the impact that these events have had on Australia have been huge, and It's nothing to laugh about. However, in Bran Nue Dae, the writers have used humour to provoke laughter, or at least a relative emotional response from the audience while talking about these subjects.…

One quality that makes Nathaniel a good Romantic Hero is his good hearted, innocent, pure and helpful manner. Throughout the movie, he displays these characteristics many times. For example, Nathaniel was very close to his family and friends. His parents were killed when he was very young, so he was raised by a Mohican man named Chingachgook, along with his adopted brother Uncas. The family always stuck together and protected each other and helped out others in need. In the movie, Nathaniel helps an English soldier named Duncan, who is escorting the two daughters of an English General named Munro, get to Fort William Henry. Duncan's army is slaughtered by a deceiving guide named Magua, and Nathaniel helped Duncan and the two girls escape. Nathaniel takes them to the…

One very notable performance for me was how quickly the more tame Reverend was able to switch characters and become his hot-tempered son Luke, who wasn’t afraid to do whatever it took to achieve justice. The difference between these two characters was like hot and cold and the actor who played both was able to change between characters fairly quickly so that it was almost difficult to tell that it was the same person playing a different character. I also found the scenes after Portia had been shot to be very moving and I really felt like the actors gave it their all. They were able to embrace the agony of not knowing if your child is going to make it and the difficulty of dealing with people trying to pity you.…

    Noi the Albino

The film Noi the Albino, written and directed by Dagur Kari, is centered on a teenage misfit, in a small fishing town, who fantasizes of hopeless plans to get out of his white hell. This incredible film is a ten year, work of art; made up of original music by the director’s band, Slowblow, and the intentionally boring, unprofessional actors. Although Noi, himself, is fascinatingly bright, he lacks potential to keep him in school and on the right track. This film, is by far one of the most bleak, uneventful films, but it is the lack of substantiality of virtually nothing happening, that projects the mood and emotion in such a powerful way that it “seeps into our bones and makes us sympathize” with Noi (Zwick).…

The movie had a lot of good things but the end did not seem to work. I think the problem was in Tea Leoni’s character. The performance was good but the problem was in the writing or maybe the editing of the film. It needed a few short scenes centered on her character. The way he has it setup, it seems to be almost a caricature; not a real person. All her scenes have her in a frenzy with very…

The movie, overall, was quite good. I thought that their choice of music was pretty clever. I mean, it was a little cheesy, but it was also a little funny how they managed to get a song that related to what they were doing. When Mullet fingers was running beside the bus barefoot, they played the song Barefootin, which I thought was pretty funny.…
