A Bug’s Life
In the beginning of the film, it started with the ant colony getting and placing all food in a single place. They are preoccupied by traditional agricultural labor, an illustration of an economy needing workers to do the labor because there is scarcity of resources so they need to maintain the amount of food for the colony. This is a depiction of a farmer living on a farm and must harvest his crops to have production and resources for his living and for the market too. There is the presence of labor and employment because ants do the work depending on their rank. There is the queen ant that oversee the production and ordinary or worker ants who finds and collect food for the colony. The economy on the film is also demonstrated with the use of simple technologies. One ant in the film invented better technology for collecting crops such as his grain-collecting device created to speed up collection of grain. This shows the need for better technology of the ant colony to increase the supply of production and collection within the ant colony.
However, the ant colony was under the grasshoppers rule. Grasshoppers can be represented by landholder who seeks tribute or money from their holdings. Ants must offer food for them. By doing such things, the grasshoppers promised to protect them from other wild insects. In this situation, it seems that the grasshoppers are the superior and they have the any colony working for them to gather food. Both the ants and grasshoppers need food so the ants must double the effort they are doing to have enough food for them. This illustrates the law of supply and demand. There is a high number of populations in the ant colony plus the greedy nations of grasshoppers too. Since there is a large number of ants and grasshopper needing for food, then definitely the demand will be high. To make the economy equilibrium, the ants must put extra effort to maintain the right amount of supply
