A Career that Changes Lives Everyday Many people do not know what engineering is but they encounter it everyday. Engineering has a wide-ranging field from electronics to medicines, to consumer goods. Biomedical engineering, which I hope to study in college, deals specifically with medical technologies and products. This career is my main focus because I can help many people without having to consult with each and every one. Even though I know I will be working in a laboratory, I will always have the opportunity to learn more and make discoveries in medicine. (U.S Bureau) The nature of engineering is learning to apply scientific and mathematical principles towards developing solutions of technical problems. Engineers are the secret link between scientific discoveries and the commercial applications that meet consumer needs. Many engineers develop new products in which components are precisely specified. For instance, the product must be effective, reliable, safe, and be sold at a decent price. This process applies to the development of chemicals, computers, power plants, helicopters, and much much more. These engineers supervise factory production, determine causes of machinery failure and test goods so to maintain quality. (Career Info) There are many specialties that are recognized in the engineering field. An example is, a motor vehicle engineer or an engineer in one type of technology, such as turbines or conductive materials. There are also numerous subdivisions of each branch of engineering. Civil engineering includes transportation engineering and materials engineering includes ceramic, metallurgical, and polymer engineering. Most engineers specialize from a major branch of engineering.
