A Christmas Carol and Scrooge

In the story “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens, Ebenezer Scrooge lost control of his life because he allowed his childhood to impact his future. Scrooge seems like a grumpy isolated man, but many don’t know how affected he really is by the life he had as a child. Scrooge was forced to be isolated when his father sent him away. He would spend every Christmas alone. His one and only love left him. Scrooge never really had control because his childhood molded his future.
The way Ebenezer Scrooge grew up as a child made it hard for him to have control over his future. When Scrooge was born his mother died giving birth to him. This causes his father to to spend him away and blame him for the death of his mother. Scrooge was then abandoned by his father. His father sent him away to a boarding school and had him isolated from his family. Due to that he isolated himself from friends and people around him. Scrooge grew lonely and anti social. Without a loving family he was never introduce to showing compassion for others. Scrooge’s father never accepted him. Every year during Christmas his younger sister Fran returned home, while Scrooge stayed alone behind at the boarding house. This seclusion for a child could be traumatizing. Growing up alone with the thought that you’re responsible for your mother’s death and also being alone on such a joyous holiday affected Scrooge greatly. These experiences as a child led Scrooge to hate Christmas as an adult and people around him. Ebenezer Scrooge’s future was tainted by his childhood. As a child Scrooge suffers from loneliness and isolation. His childhood was difficult because of his relationship with his father. Children look up to role models to help shape when making difficult decisions. Children also look up to other relatives and especially their parents. Scrooge’s father was careless, coldhearted and unforgiving. In comparison to Scrooge’s father Scrooge could be described the same. Even role models are ordinary people. Ebenezer scrooge has no free will because of his past. Scrooge seems like a grumpy isolated man, but many don’t know how affected he really is by the life he had as a child. Ebenezer Scrooge never really had control because his childhood molded his future.
