So, there are the advantages, 100 % aroma retention in the freeze concentration, extremely high quality of the freeze concentration, no thermal degradation of the food during its freeze concentration, high hygienic standards due to the low temperature closed system, no intermediate cleaning of the plant required, the volume reduction also allows for considerable saving in packaging, storage, and transportation, frozen concentration juice with a stabilizer has a longer shelf - life (when stored at -20 0C) up to 9 -10 months (Pruthi, J. 1999), frozen concentration juice can be produced with less consumption of energy, and the ice produced can be the reused for the cooling of the incoming juice. While, the disadvantages of freeze concentration are when juice is frozen in continuous slush freezers and subsequently centrifuged, losses of soluble solids up to 5 percent are common and loss of suspended solids during freeze concentration has been more troublesome than loss of soluble solids.…

In this part, the goal was to determine the effect of volume fraction on separation time. In order to determine the effect of volume fraction on settle-time, the density of oil was assumed to be constant with an average value of 900 kg/m3. Volume fraction was varied from a value of 0 to 0.5 and by using the Zigrang-Sylvester relationships provided by the instructor, the coefficients a,b and c were calculated. The settling velocity Uϕ was then determined by using the following relationship;…

George Bernard Shaw, a renowned writer and Irish playwright, details how “life isn 't about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself”. In both Gene Luen Yang’s American Born Chinese, as well as Journey to the West by Wu-Cheng-en, the central characters participate in a series of events that lead to the establishment of their personalities and aspirations. Monkey, a shared protagonist of the novels, lives in a world of self-absorption and his immature, unjustified actions bring severe punishment, continuing the rest of his endless life while trapped under a pile of rocks. Later, a monk arrives at Monkey’s imprisonment site to ask for accompaniment towards a long, perilous journey into the West. Monkey soon redeems himself of his…

Onion, being high in water content, is a delicate commodity to store and requires special procedure and parameters, giving rise to the concept of Onion cold storage. The proposed project envisions setting up of an onion cold storage unit in Gujarat to tackle the problem of post harvest storage. It will be an essential infrastructure for onion exporters, both in private and public sector. Project Application Onion is an important vegetable crop grown in India and forms a part of daily diet in almost all house holds throughout the year. It is also used for medical purpose. But due to non-availability of appropriate post-harvest storage facilities, 20-25% of the total produced onions are wasted, which in terms of value amounts to crores of rupees. Building up of the cold storage unit would minimize the waste upto the level of 3 to 4% that would in turn help the onion growers, and stabilize onion prices in market for all types of consumers.…

The concept of controlled atmosphere for prolonging the life of fresh products (commodities and fruit), stored in bulk, dates back to World War I. As early as 1917, the Government, concerned about the food shortages during the World War, established the Food Investigation Organization (FIO). A leading fruit farmer pointed out the extensive spoilage of apples in storage as one of the major problems, to the Government. One Franklin Kidd and another Cyril West were appointed to study ways to improve fruit storage. Applying information obtained while studying seed germination, Kidd and West demonstrated that fruit ripening could be retarded by increasing carbon dioxide and lowering oxygen in the storage atmosphere. And, from that day onwards and still ongoing, constant efforts are being made to control the atmosphere surrounding commodities and fruit, to help improve business logistics and better serve the customer.…
