I chose to read this book because I had read the previous books in the series. I also watched the TV show based on the series but that was after I read the first book. I loved the series. It is probably the most realistic fantasy series I have ever read. When I'm reading the book, a lot of times it feels like I'm reading about Medieval history and not fantasy. I also love the series for its unpredictability. I never know what will happen next and it always keeps me intrigued. And so for that reason, my love for the previous books in the series, I decided to read his book.
This book really gave me an image of how stupid so many other fantasy books are. In most fantasy books, the main characters can do whatever they want and they never die. There seems to be no repercussions for the actions of the main characters. A Dance With Dragons is not like most fantasy books. Main characters die. A lot. This book is no fairy tale and I thank George R.R. Martin for not making it into one. What I also realized about many other fantasy novels after reading this book is how black and white they were. Fantasy novels often only have characters who are completely evil or are completely good, there is no middle ground. It's really stupid because no one is ever completely evil or completely good. In A Dance With Dragons, no one is good or bad. Everyone has their own motives and it's really up to the readers who they want to root for. That's how A Dance With Dragons changed
