We all know that management operates through various functions. Dr. Pope did a great job in staffing; he studied the pros and cons of the two applicants before picking one of them. He has also done a great job in organizing, because he told himself to tell the department heads that they did not need his concurrence on such little projects. “I probably should set some guidelines” he thought to himself. This is where creating involves because his creative idea that he should set some guidelines instead. He has also done a great job in leading because every problem he always has a answer and decision.
He also had a great job in communicating but there are things Dr. Pope lack; first, motivation, one of his children is sick, somehow he can’t operate his job well. Second, monitoring and controlling, because he doesn’t bother to check personally what’s happening in the processes, especially in the plant, he was just told by Jamison that he will be kept posted on the progress.
Despite of the things lacking in Dr. Pope’s management, he satisfies all of the three roles; interpersonal, informational and decisional.
I think, for Dr. Pope’s situation, his child is sick, no one is near his child but the mother, and he also need to, his time expenditure was completely controlled by his job responsibilities and obligations. For me, it’s just normal, he has a suffering child but he needed to go to work, positively thinking to lessen the problems so that he can have sufficient time for his family. At the end of the day, that was just 6:30 in the afternoon, he could make up with his suffering child and he could take his child as his inspiration to go to work for the betterment of his family and their future.
