For most people living in the industrialised world, electricity is one of the basic necessities. Electricity has become so ingrained with our everyday lives, that it is difficult to imagine living without it.

Morning
Unless you are lucky enough to wake up when the sun rises or you have a rooster in your backyard, then getting out of bed to get to work in time could prove to be your first ordeal of the day. Without smart phones or alarm clocks to wake you up in the morning, you would have to rely on your internal clock to wake you up in the morning hours.
Once up and ready to face the day, you head to the bathroom to clean your teeth, and have a shower. Only, you are in for a rather shocking surprise when the water in the shower hits you; there is only cold water available. As the water in the shower is heated by electricity, many people would be in for an energising cold shower had they no electricity.
Feeling shaken, yet perhaps somewhat invigorated after the shower incident, you head to the fridge for some breakfast supplies, only to discover that your milk is warm and your favourite bacon has turned into a new life form. Refrigerators having been the breakthrough in food preserving, without electricity people are not able to enjoy heat-sensitive food products on an everyday basis.
Surely a nice, hot cup of coffee would make you forget about the troubles of the past thirty minutes? You run to the coffee machine with the promise of an aromatic cup of coffee in your mind, but realise there would be no coffee for you today. As coffee machines require electricity as well, the daily dose of coffee is a mere dream.
