“A Difficult Decision”

My most difficult decision in my life is when I decided to work two jobs to take care of myself, and also go back to school to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. I knew that this would consist of a great amount of time and discipline to be a success. Even though it will take a great amount of sacrifice I know that it will pay off in the long run. The reason that I feel it is difficult is because with a lot going on you will have to maintain a great time management system to not become overwhelmed. A difficult decision can be difficult in the process of thinking of it, but if it is approached positively it becomes worth it in the end. When I made this decision I knew that I would have to be able to maintain a balanced life that will support every aspect in my life. I will have to maintain a healthy diet to obtain the energy that is needed to not become exhausted mentally and physically. Time management was a very big role in this decision to be able to get a lot done and maintain rest. Resting goes back to my health and preventing exhaustion. I work a full time job and I also work and part time job Monday through Friday, and I am off on the weekends. On the weekend I get rest, but I also prepare myself for the week to be able to get up in the morning and go without rushing. I have to make sure that I am presentable daily because I work in two professional positions. Time management helps me maintain my balance with mental health to help make sound decisions and not feel overwhelmed. My mental health has to be healthy to be able to look at my life in a more positive way to understand the big picture, and why I am choosing to make my decision. I sat down and decided what I wanted and each week I take evaluation of my day to day tasks to always revise or keep it going based on how I feel at the end of the week. What I sacrifice is a great amount of leisure time because I am working through the week and I am preparing on the weekend. What I have learned about my life decision is to be conservative and value time that has been allowed. I sometimes get overwhelmed, but when this happens I know that I need to revise my plans. I always look at the big picture, and this is I will be a success once I have completed this journey. I am also setting an example for my son to go in the world and be the best that he can in his life. I am also accomplishing a goal that I and many others thought that could not become a reality. This has been a difficult decision for me because it takes a lot of sacrifices, but I know that if I remain consistent I will greatly appreciate it in the very end.

Why one makes a choice ADN or BNS is clearly stated: not enough time, family obligations, any change in pay for the same responsibilities, and getting a Bachelors degree in another field is appealing to some. There is not enough credit given to the doors that a BSN degree opens for a nurse. There is not enough encouragement or incentives from the employer to the ADN to pursue a higher education.…

Conducting a time analysis was a pretty eye opening experience for me. I analyzed my time from Saturday 6/15 through Friday 6/21. As a family man, the fact that I spend a great deal of my time, over half, during the course of a week working and sleeping is somewhat unsettling (see Figure 1 – Weekly Time Analysis). I spend an average of 55 hours per week working, a minimum of 11 hours each day, 5 days a week. I slept approximately 5-6 hours per night, a total of 40 hours for the week. The combination of the two is about 56.5% of my week’s time. Studying took up around 20 hours or approximately 12 %. I spent 7 hours in my car during the week, which was to and from work for the most part. Family time, eating, and recreation was a total of 43 combined hours or 25.6%. “Other” consisted of a handful of other activities and was about 3 hours of my week. Seeing how few hours I actually spend with my family doesn’t sit well. Yet, knowing I work the long hours I do for the betterment of my family makes it all worth it.…

For my personal reflection story I choose to focus on returning to school after a long period of time in order to become self-supporting and show my children the importance of an education. This reflection was important to me to show the class that no matter the length of time one is absent from gaining a higher education, they can always return to school and start again. Also it was important to say or imply, never stop working on oneself or become fully reliant on somebody for support in this life. I disclosed a brief history of myself and the fact that I had started my family early in life and become basically stagnant in personal growth while also having the opportunity to raise my children. This blessing was to become my demise when…
