A Favorite Teacher or Professor
Throughout my academic career, I have come across many teachers and lecturers who guided me in various subjects of my study. I could learn different things about professional and social life from them. Among all teachers, Mr. Kamran Karimlou is my favorite professor. He teaches us System Engineering in my Master’s program at CSULA which is my part of study. There are many qualities which stand out and make him the best among others. I liked him for the most important reason is that I have never got bored in his lecture. I like the way he represents himself in class and teaches. He is a little bit rigid but he has an excellent sense of humor. Systems Engineering comes alive in Karimlou's class. Systems Engineering is an interdisciplinary field of engineering focusing on how complex engineering projects should be designed and managed over their life cycles. He designs his course structure very strategically and well-planned so that we could learn things in easy steps and steadily. Moreover those course structures are very important for practical application in real industrial work. He is always organized with his subject material, topics to discuss and questions regarding them. When he teaches, no one talks about anything but the topic that he discusses. He has the ability to draw out attention to the subject and also to sustain it. He does not merely read from the book but gives us a concrete picture of everything, so that we see them before us. We enjoy his teachings and he makes his classes very interesting by citing examples from day to day happenings and from books outside our courses. He stimulates us to make our activities greater. He always makes sure that every student is well understood about the subject and every problem is solved after each tutorial, no matter how much time or effort it takes. Karimlou believes in individual performance of students. He grades the student based on student’s performance in exam. Moreover, in his class there is always a healthy discussion that generates new ideas and increases our curiosity about the subject. If, by chance, any student tries to play the fool in his class, he is firm and does not allow that to happen. He is a great combination of kindness and strictness.
Karimlou is very passionate about the subject and his teaching. His every single tutorial proves that he is sincere and well-organized about whatever he teaches. His knowledge and experiences are very vast. He has great Industrial experience. Although his subject is engineering, Karimlou has a good knowledge of other subjects also. He is well versed with all the current affairs of the world and he often links what we are studying to something that may have been taught somewhere else in the world. Apart from subjects, he also shares his experiences of his personal life. He talks about the work environment, economic and social aspects of our day to day life. His knowledge and advice not only helps in our careers, but also our personal development too. He cares about students’ personal growth in all aspects and about work-life balance, which is very realistic and practical. Karimlou tells us in life whatever we do to be excellent in that field. He gave an example that being a bartender is not an insignificant job. But whatever we are doing do in more stylish ways and should always be advancing in that profession. He also believes experience makes person perfect. He also puts more weight on the word ‘think’. He tells us to think big and think strategically. He tells us whatever we are going to do just think before doing it. Also he tells us to give a priority to our work or tasks in our routine life and do whatever is most important. He also believes money is an important thing in life and money brings happiness in life. So first earn enough money in life, money and social life both are important. Through this book and Mitch’s story, I could see that Morrie was a very passionate and humble teacher. He became an inspiration for Mitch, not only because of his great knowledge and experience, but also his passion and dedication to his profession till the last days of his life. Morrie was a victim of a life-threatening disease like cancer, but still he wanted to share his expertise and experiences with students. He tried his best to serve his students and gave his time for their development. Morrie’s attitude and efforts became a great support to Mitch’s professional and personal life. With my personal experience I can say that you always need a good teacher who can inspire you, guide you and give you a practical vision of life. I can relate Karimlou to Morrie’s life in so many aspects. They both are very passionate about their subjects and teaching. They are very popular among students because of their practical and rational view of life. They love being among students and help them as much as they can. They both have charming yet down to earth personalities which can inspire any student.
In conclusion, I would like to say that I am much influenced by my professor Karimlou as he is a very good teacher with excellent knowledge and experience. His passion for his work and dedication towards students’ development always inspires me to become a great professional and human being like him. Moreover Professor’s Karimlou thoughts are very realistic and very practical in these days. He strongly believes in being successful in life. And one most important thing I learned beside the study from him is how to live life in today’s world. I can find similar qualities like passion, dedication, care for students and a winning attitude towards life in both Karimlou and Morrie. Those qualities make them inspiration at to others and to me.

Jared Doerr 11/17/14 Arguments and Reasoning Gladiator Events: Sport or Not? Are gladiator events of ancient Rome sport? Gladiator events were most certainly a violent form of entertainment and because of the violence I would think we would naturally feel that it is not a sport; however, before we can clarify whether or not gladiator events are sport, we first have to define what a “sport” is considered to be. I have broken down “sport” to contain three elements: some aspect of competiveness (a desire to win), some kind of physical exertion (strain on the body) and also some kind of mental exertion (problem solving skills). Based on these three elements, gladiator events in ancient Rome are most certainly sport.…

When I think back to my most memorable teacher I immediately am reminded of my third grade teacher Ms. Castaldi. Her classroom was set up in small groups of four around the room, her desk in the middle. I liked this classroom arrangement as a child because I felt like she was one of the students. Ms. Castadli treated all her students with respect and was extremely caring and understanding, like a mother. She had a true passion for what she did and it really showed because all of her students were successful in the classroom.…

The concept of liberal arts education has been spread through different universities all over the world. This system of education gives students much more freedom that let them choose freely their majors, courses even their professors. Mrs. Anderson reputations precede her as one of the most innovative English Language teacher at the Norman Manley High School. I can attest to her innovative skills when I was first introduce to her in fifth form; she exuded English in every manner, the suttle tone of her voice in which she spoke, with an accent as if she was born in Britain but on the contrary she was a Jamaican. She said to my class on the first day that “She promised she would provide us with the tools we needed to succeed but it was up to us how much we would take from her class”. Her innovative teaching methods begun when she acknowledged the complexity of the students linguistic situation and specific language problems which deserve explicitly structured attention based on the result of her first test to indentified how students at the fifth form level thus far was grasping or understanding English language was very poor. Sadly my personal grade on the test was forty five percent, As a result of the poor grades; Mrs. Anderson reinvented her curriculum and implemented a system where each week, students would submit various assignments based on the area of their weakness. My weakness at the time was grammatical structure when answering various questions and grammar errors found when writing essays. She would assign me to complete various language structure questions and mechanics to improve on my area of weakness. Willing to do anything to salvage my failing grade, I did my assignments and quickly improved in my weak areas and ended up getting a ninety-five percent on the following test. English Language became one of my favorite classes, simply because Mrs. Anderson teaching methods were so effective, I think all of my teachers are innovative in various ways, I truly appreciate Mrs. Anderson as her approach to teaching was so captivating than any I had every experienced…
